the Bible was written over a period of about 1600 years, by 40 different authors.
It was initially written in Hebrew, then Aramaic, then Greek and even Latin. Most of the OT is Hebrew, but some of it is in Aramaic. I believe the hole NT is Greek. I'm no theologist, but i've also heard that some of it is in Latin, but I'm not sure about Latin
"EDIT" J T is quoting from 'the davinci code', there were many Bibles all over the middle eastern world at that time, the catholic church could not have tracked down them all. btw - if catholics did write it, they would have changed many things - like the 10 commandments for one (check a catechism they are different to the actual Bible)
Dan Brown produced a nice fairy tale, although I agree with alot of things he said, most of it was invented and not properly investigated.

The bible was compiled about 300 AD.
It was first published in its present state about 1550 AD
The oldest book was about 5000 years ago
The newest book about 80 AD
The languages are
Hebrew
Chaldean
Greek
Aramaic
and maybe Latin
All the books of the bible we have in there original format!
That is the purpose of the concordance, which takes (for us) the English, back to the original word and the translation of the word.
Example
Genesis 1
1:1 In the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth.
above from the KJV
Transliterated
In the beginning7225
created 1254
God 430, 853
the Heaven8064
and 853
the earth. 776
The words of the original
re'shiyth (ray-sheeth') bara' (baw-raw') 'elohiym (el-o-heem') 'eth (ayth) shamayim (shaw-mah'-yim) 'eth (ayth) 'erets (eh'-rets)
Now lets look at the meaning of the heaven:
OT:8064 shamayim (shaw-mah'-yim); dual of an unused singular shameh (shaw-meh'); from an unused root meaning to be lofty; the sky (as aloft; the dual perhaps alluding to the visible arch in which the clouds move, as well as to the higher ether where the celestial bodies revolve):
KJV - air, astrologer, heaven (-s).
and look at The Earth
OT:776 'erets (eh'-rets); from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):
KJV - common, country, earth, field, ground, land, natins, way, wilderness, world.
So it is talking about
the universe and this ground we call the earth!

well you see the characters in the bible never wrote a thing of themselves not even Soloman and i loved his trials and tribulation!
some or most of these books were put together 100's of years apart you see reading was not common so just remember this only the priest king queen and few others were able to view these books and write the books edit the books and so forth!

The bible as we know it was written in Latin by the Catholic church. And it took about 100 years from the invention of the Catholic church in 325 CE to actually create the bible.
The Catholic church made their version of bible official in 397 CE. And, it is the same one the majority of other Christian cults follow.
JT is not referring to anything other than the historical facts. Prior to 397 CE, there was no official bible. Christians followed whatever they wanted prior to 325 CE. In 325 CE, Constantine decreed that his Universal (Catholic) Religion was the official religion of the Roman Empire and all Roman citizens would adopt it or be executed.
But, before 325 CE, Romans generally followed all kinds of religions books (scrolls), doctrines, and philosophies. That's why the Nicene Council was convoked, to force all Romans to adopt a single religion. We now call that religion "Christianity," but it was named "Universal Religion," not "Christianity."
Catholic means universal in Latin.

I would imagine a long time...cuz it started in the golden age og Egypt...and Ramases was around when Moses was around...so check out when Ramases was Pharoah, then you'll know more or less when the Bible was around (but of course it was around way before that)...then I think it was still around during the late A.D.s and during the Roman Empire...it was done in Hebrew!!
