Use a single diode to get a pulsed DC current, 50% of power.
Use a bridge rectifier to get a pulsed DC current for full wave rectification.
Use capacitors for smoothing the current.
Use Switch mode power supplies.
etc...

a bridge made of diodes.and a capacitor .that is what you can see in adoptors.a trans. a bridge and a capacitor.
