These are some of the symptoms:

Sadness throughout the day, nearly every day

Loss of interest in or enjoyment of your favorite activities

Feelings of emptiness or hopelessness

Feeling stressed, nervous, or overwhelmed

Trouble concentrating or making decisions

Feelings of worthlessness

Excessive or inappropriate feelings of guilt

Irritability or restlessness

Thoughts of death or suicide

Physical symptoms are the following:

Fatigue or lack of energy

Sleeping too much or too little

Change in appetite or weight

Aches and pains

Headache

Back pain

Digestive problems

Dizziness

If you have a combination of these, you are at risk. Print out these symptoms and give them to your Mom. If she says it is just in your head, you can say, "yes, maybe it is, but I need help with it. A person's head can mess them up."

If she still won't take you to the doctor, see a counsellor at school or someone at your church. Call a hotline:

Youth Crisis Hotline: 1-800-448-4663

Get help.

This is something that your mom has to take seriously. You must make her understand that you are not joking because this will threaten your health if you let it go.
Have your mom sit down at the kitchen table with you and explain that you have something serious to discuss. Try not to act like a kid discussing kid stuff. Use adult language and keep a serious expression on your face at all times. Tell her that you have been depressed over an extended period of time and that it is beginning to frighten you. If this is causing you a serious amount of pain than let her know that. Tell her that you don't know how to make it stop and you want to go to a doctor to see if there is anything that can be done about it. It is crucial that you act serious and mature because if she thinks you are playing her she will ignore you.
If she still won't listen to you than you need to talk to a minister at your church or a school counselor and get them involved. The three of you can have a meeting and, perhaps, the adult backup will convince your mom that you are serious.
By no means are you to let this go. I cannot stress enough how potentially serious depression may become in young people. You need to see either a doctor or a psychologist about this problem.
I'll be praying for you.

Well, she's right that it's in your head, and wrong that you don't need a doctor. So, if she won't take you, either ask another relative or ask a counselor at school for help. Someone can get you the help you sound like you need. Good luck.

I'm a mom, and when I was learning things, "depressed" meant "bummed out". Yes, "bummed out" is something you get past. But I think you are talking about clinical depression, which is a medical condition, and can be treated with meds. There's lots of resources that will explain this to your mom. My middle daughter struggles with this condition, and we can all tell when she runs out of meds. Talk to your doctor and ask him/her to talk to your mom. Good luck, sweetie.

if you think you have depression read up on the symptons just do your homework basically find out more about it, show your mom what you have found out so she can realise its serious and if she still isn't convinced ask your dad or an aunt or someone to make you an appointment to the doctors.
good luck !

Can you go and see a GP yourself? Just tell the doctor you are depressed.
