When his brain tumor grew too big and inoperable ?these were the only words he could say!
He never swore much in his life until this.

Before my Dad died he too had an inoperable tumor that affected his speech. He went from having normal conversation to having problems recalling words to not being able to speak at all. It was very difficult to watch. He was conscience and knew inside himself what he wanted to say, but it wouldn't come out. I've never seen such frustration!

I think the brain is such an amazing organ and to have something like a tumor interfere with its normal operation would make it near impossible to predict how it will react. I suspect a tumor, the same as your Fathers, would affect someone else completely different.

No doubt your Father heard both those words during his lifetime and they were lodged in his memory and speech bank. The tumor must have interfered in such a way that those were the only two words left at his disposal. It could have easily been egg and bench. I also guess he did not use them appropriately, further evidence it was not "him" speaking, it was his brain giving him what was left.

I'm sorry for your loss.

The brain works in strange ways. it short circuits while trying to find ways around tumours and blood clots. That kind of thing happens all the time, and it upsets the families of the patients more than the doctors and nurses looking after them. You must understand that your father didn't know he was saying those two words, they were just the only two memories not destroyed in that area of his brain by thetumour, and they were probably very old memories, from when he was little more than a toddler. Please understand that it meant absolutely nothing to him, that he thought he was saying something else. He could have been trying to tell people he loved them and not to be sad Love=sex=f**k and don't be sad=no in certain parts of the brain.

When brain cancers hit, their effects can differ depending on the location. A cancer in one area would effect your vision, but not your speech. A cancer in another area could effect your speech, but not your balance/motor planning. His cancer probably was in the speech areas (Wernicke's area and/or Broca (sp)) that effect how he communicates. This would result in such a behavior. So when his brain was saying "I'm thirsty", his mouth was saying one of the words you described.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Wow, you put too much thought into this. Obviously if he had a brain tumor that effected his speech and thinking, he probably didn't know what he was saying.

P.S. - Most of us don't care what happened to him. If you're that sensitive, don't post the question.
