Can images be transferred from a Digital Camera to a USB Mass storage device directly without a PC/Laptop?

No. some device along the usb bus must be the master. and it's not your cam and it's not a disk drive.

in the case of the ipod, it acts as the master. a simplistic master... but a master none the less.

in the case of my new canon printer, it can act like a master for cameras. a very simple master.

depending on the storage device. some device such as the epson p2000 has the ability to upload images frm a storage card into the hard drive that it has. while others do not. look around for portable multimedia player or something like that.

It depends on the camera, but normally, yes. My Ricoh 700 does not need a PC, it can even send pics by e mail directly through a telephone line.

Yes, you'd have to search around for a bit on amazon or ebay.

Considering they have camera to ipod adapters on the market, i dont see it impossible to have something a bit more standard for other devices.

if you somehow had the connection and your camera has an option to export files to external devices (none do that i know of). otherwise your answer is no
