Because I live in the West--specifically, I was raised in the American South--and I was brought up with Jesus and God's names only.

Also, many Christians are told not to "take God's name in vain." So when I left the church, I said "Jesus Christ!" and "goddamn!" at every opportunity. It felt very liberating. I've said this in other answers--like filing for divorce, like throwing the abusive creep's wedding ring away. I don't *need* to say it so much anymore, but "goddamn" remains part of my speech.

Since I've been Pagan for nine years, I'll find myself saying things like "Gods forbid", "Thank the Gods" (I even have an abbreviation, "TTG"), and "Oh my Gods."

You guys need to understand that you're all referring to the same god, whether you say Allah, God, Jehovah, Yahweh, or any other name for the Lord.

I just say Jesus and God because that's what I've heard all my life. But I should start mixing it up a little bit with the other names for God...

Probably because they don't have a personal relationship with them. Ok, let me rephrase that. Probably because they didn't take the necessary time to build a personal relationship with them so now, when everybody else is walking on streets paved with gold, they'll be knee deep in mud and wishing that they could have another chance to live life the way it was meant to be. I wonder how many chances they'll be given? Regardless, they've wasted precious time that can never be gotten back and they've still got Judgement Day just ahead of them and think that "I'm sorry" will be enough to get them through the gates. That's when they'll realize that they'd gone down the wrong path. Now wouldnt it have been smarter of them to have done it the right way to begin with?

If you say Damn Allah, you moight be the next Hizbullah target. If you say Damn Budha, nothing will happen they are too pacific to mess up with you. You say Jesus christ coz they are the only stupid ones around that would be disturbed by it, yet won't say a word coz they themselves use the term. So they won't even bother to say anything about it.

If you say Damn Allah you will be in big trouble. You saw what they did when someone put a picture of a bomb on a cartoon. Go around and say Damm Allah and see what happens to you. Better yet go to Saudi Arabia and say it...may you rest in peace

Because the people you come into contact with are likely from predominantly english speaking countries, and where the primary religion is christianity.

Until relatively recently, most people's experience of other religions would have been minimal. It is only now that the world has become smaller due to improvements in transportation of people and information that people have such 'close' contact with other cultures and religions.

Cultural thing. My parents swore in the name of Jesus/God, my brother swore in the name of Jesus/God, and my friends swore in the name of Jesus/God, it's something I picked up. Even though I rarely say Jesus Christ, it's too long.

It is based on where you grew up. I actually say "Dag Nabit" because I grew up in a southern part of the country where that was said instead of God Damn it.

Its cultural.

Simple.

And just for a giggle, I like to be more interesting with swearing - "By the trumpet of Louis Armstrong!".
