What food would you try if you're in Malaysia?

Would you for the usual hotel food or the street / hawker food? usually, i see most foreigners eating food from fast food joints, hotels, pubs.

I went to KL and Miri just a few months back and the local food worth trying out are the following:

1. Laksa
2. Satay
3. fern shoots w/ belacan
4. grilled sting ray in banana leaf
