My fiance and I decided to have a family only, day time reception. I'm trying to come up with ideas to make this backyard reception fun. Any ideas?

My husband and I kind-of did this... but we have a HUGE family. We had a pig roast. A lot of my family brought different salads. It was like a potluck BBQ. I had a chocolate fountain for the day, everyone loved that! We rented tables and chairs. I covered them with plastic table cloths in bright shades of blue and green. We got fish bowls at an auction for cheep, then put goldfish in them with sand and sea shells around them. (we gave them away to the kids after) I borrowed tikki torches from a friend and got paper lanterns at the dollar store in green, blue and orange... to match my tables and fish! It was tropical themed, so we got leis and everyone wore them. We had music and dancing. There was a volleyball net, and horseshoes. The buffet table and my cake was under a white tent. (drier sheets keep the bugs away) You cant have a family BBQ without beer! I found beach balls on sale that also matched my colors, I just left them around the yard for the kids to play with. Just make sure you have something for the little ones do to, so the adults can chat, and have a good time without worrying about bored kids. Good luck and congrats!!!

BBQ, pig roast, potluck reception. You can have a fun theme too, like a Hawaiian theme, americana, etc.
Have backyard games such as horse shoes, badmington, sprinklers for the kids.
Bom fire and a marsmallow roast.
White christmas lights decorating the back yard threes.
Open bar is a must

Congratulations and good luck

have a slide show (if possible to set it up outside) of you guys when you were kids and though your relationship. ask family members to tell funny stories about your childhood and relationship. have a quiz type of thing where everyone (you and the groom included) fills out what they know about yours and the grooms like and dislikes. take silly pictures. have a dance off.
