Try not to be nervous. Easier said than done I know! When I give a presentation or speach, I try to project my voice to the person sitting in the back row (if no microphone) or if your using a microphone, hold it in front of you just under your chin & speak normally. So many people think they have to yell into a mic or hold it right at their mouth...you don't as it distorts & becomes hard to understand all words.
When I first started, I would just pretend that I was at home alone practising rather than telling myself that I was in front of 200 people! Its best not to focus on one individual, rather, just scan your eyes over the top of peoples heads & no direct eye contact until your confident enough. Breathing calmly will also help get rid of the nervous shaking of your voice & any body parts.
If you tell yourself that the people are going to judge you or laugh at you, you will be setting yourself up for some serious complexes!!! Remind yourself that you have the information these people need & they will be listening to what you have to say rather than concentrating on you mannerisms. Dont fold your arms or put them on your hips. there are many publications on this subject. Google "public speaking tips" & see what you can come up with.
Good luck :o)

You have the answer in the question. The first few times, no matter what you do, you are bound to feel nervous. It's part of being human. The more you do it, the more you shed your inhibitions. Confidence in what you say is important. And that comes through 'knowing' what you are speaking better. I've always believed that when you know something definitely, you don't think twice before expressing it. No matter how many people the audience is comprised of. Often, it's the fear of being shamed in public or being proved wrong or being thought of as a dunce, that fills us with nervousness when we go on stage. Be more confident on what you say. Self-confidence. Whatever you do. Wherever you go. Results automatically in a good personality.

Toastmasters is good. But most important I think is that you have confidence in what you are saying. Those speaches are the easiest to give for me. Also know your audience. Maybe at first you can say something funny to cut the tension. Think of it as an honor instead of hard work. The people are there to listen to you, so you must have something important to say. Trust in yourself!

Also did you know that most people fear public speaking more than death? I learned that the first day of my public speaking class. Interesting eh?

You can join the local Toastmasters Club in your city. The Toastmasters Club helps people to become better public speakers. The confidence gained here should automatically help improve your faith in your good personality.

You can also try and practise your speeches with people you are familiar with, gradually increasing the group size. Use a language you are comfortable with, and if required use notes.

Go to your local community college and take a speech class. It helps a bunch with having to speak in public.

Toastmasters International has groups all over the U.S. Meetings vary according to location(sometimes in hotels etc). Speakers present a short speech about any topic and are given interesting feedback.

Toastmasters? It's a public speaking club.

There are also public speaking classes, I have a friend that took one and he said by the end of it you don't care anymore.

Or, Paxil, Xanax, and Propranolol, if you have serious issues a psychiatrist can tell you what these are.
