I am a 15 year old kid and have gone through a lot the last few years. I have experienced many family losses and my dad has been out of work. I have been depressed for the last year and my medication isn't really working. My grades have dropped a lot since my depression and I don't know what to do about it. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to work through this tough time?

Hey, take a look at what is happening around the world. People in poorer countries are suffering much much more than you. They have experienced loss of homes, families, friends through Wars, Natural Disasters.... They sleep in the streets, drink rain water, eat bread crumps and left-overs, been wearing the same old clothes for the past few months... You have to WAKE UP NOW. You still have your friends and family... Stop feeling sorry for yourself and start enjoying what you have right now...

Take the long view. It may be hard right now, but things never stay the same. You are 15, set a goal to get through till 15 and 1/2, then till 16. Keep a journal and write down the little things as well as the big things. Like noticing something that makes you happy in your day. A bird singing, someone you like giving you a smile or hug.

Remember that only you can make you happy. What I mean by that is don't let anyone bring you down when you feel good. Care and love, but don't immerse yourself in someone else's tragedy.

Don't sweat or worry about the little stuff, it will resolve itself without your help. And, if there isn't anything you can personally do to change, fix or otherwise improve a situation, don't worry or even think about it. It's a waste of your mental effort.

Think forward to 5 years from now. Where would you like to be when you're 20? In school . . working . . in your own place or rooming with friends at a distant college? Decide where you want to be then, and work backwards to discover the steps it will take to get there. Rely on you. Love you. Remember the good in you. You are worth something.

Nothing ever stays the same, just hang in there. It gets better.

Man, I feel sorry for you. The answers given here are all great; do them all but I wouldn't recommend cutting yourself, that's bad. Keep on praying; you know what, even if you think your prayers are not being heard, God always make a way for it. You may think they are unanswered but I'm sure God answered them in a different way, not necessarily the way you would have wanted. Study hard to gain self respect and discover any talent you might have and let them grow. Go out of the house and talk to somebody or go to the woods or anywhere where you'll be alone and trow all your frustrations in life, then go home a renewed young man.

Hang in there and understand that situations do not last forever even though they seem as though it may.

You need to express yourself and help yourself figure out that no matter how hard it gets, you are a survivor.

Talk to the school counsellor, community nurse, local depression call centers and most of all don't give in.

I would really love to be able to help you dear but I am afraid I may give you the wrong advice that will not help you. What I can do for you is just let you know I feel for you in your pain. Life is not always fair. Have you anyone there that you can talk to and trust. It is very hard for me to just give you advice when I do not know you but I can tell you that you are very precious to all of us and especially Jesus. I will be praying for you. Here is sending you a hug dear. Things will get better, Take care of yourself

You need to write or talk about your depression to someone. A person that you trust or a therapist, would do wonders for your depression. I use to have it when I was younger, I wrote everything down in a journal and then every week I'd show it to a therapist who would help me through everything.

Try to forget the pills unless you have medical depression.
It is shown that people are less likely to get depressed if they have an active social life. So, my suggestion is to go out and try having fun with your friends (cinema, sport, job... etc.). Don't spend time alone.

I've been in similar situations my man.....if you have a GF, she can help you through. If not, keep your head up and find a hobby or something that makes you happy when it gets rough. Also, a teacher or guidance counselor or someone who you really trust, someone who will let you air out all your **** will help alot. Just some suggestions, good luck!
