Seriously Plasma n lcd tvs share the same amount of life span. The only problem about plasma is its color fades over time. However, the process is very very slow. It's not true that plasma cost more to repair. If u have a dead pixel from a lcd, that's it, u have to get a new one. plasma won't have dead pixel problem.
Pioneer and Panasonic, the best brands that make plasma tv. They always ranked top in "What Video", a HDTV magazine with over 25 years of tv reviewing hstory, it has their own lab with unique equipments to test the TRUE specification of almost every models of HDTV that are on sale. Just to remind u that never trust what a saleman recommend as they usually recommends those Tvs with high comission for them to u. And Never trust the claimed Brightness, Contrast Ratio and Black levels from the brands. From the tests in "What Video", almost all brands boast their specification to attract consumers. And never judge from the quality of image produced by the tvs in the stores. From I have learnt from a saleman who working in a grand tv store. They usually calibrate those Tvs set with high comission better, and purposely make those with lower comission looks poorer. I guess the only way to check out which has a picture quality is to buy a decent HDTV magazine and start reading it. =)
Conclusion - If u are those that demand extreme high performance from a HDTV. NEVER buy other brands of Plasma besides Pioneer and Panasonic. Have a Panasonic 60 or 600 series that supports 1080p if u want a set with MPEG4 built-in recorder and future-proof.

They're all right, plasma has limited life, and it's more expensive to repair. If you do decide to go with a plasma then I would definitely get the extended warranty. LCD and DLP are better, both are more reliable and cheaper to repair. If you're looking into LCD TVs Sony is good, but Polaroid makes the same TVs with lower quality speakers and sells them for half the price.

Well if you got the money i'd go for the LCD because they last longer, use less electricity, and disapate less heat. They are about a 1000 to 2000 dollars more for the same size plasma.

if you like plasma, that's what you should get. The lifetime and reliability problems these sets once had no longer exist. Panasonic sets are the best-reviewed in the high-end TV magazines, and i agree with them from what I have seen.
