Jesus says of John's witness, "He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light."
John the Baptist....we are to follow the example and be a burning and shining lamp for others to see Christ's light through us.

According to John 5:35, Jesus was referring to John the Baptist. Also this would be any man that bears witness to God and Jesus Christ (John 5:36-38).
