Hi vashiel,

You can verify your ancestors if you join a DNA group. The MALE sir name is used for this purpose. So, it tends to exclude your mother's side, your Grandmothers, etc.

See the web site below:

So, you can hookup with others researching your ancestors by doing a Yahoo search with " Family". This will bring up groups researching your family name. Some will not be related, some MAY be.

Other sites that can help are listed below also. I suggest you start with your Birth Certificate, Get your parents Certificates (Birth, Marriage, etc), Grandparents, so on. Until you can't find any more. Do interview any living ancestors! Very important.

Once you have that information, and you search for the FAMILY sites. You will have contacts looking for your mutual ancestors. Use those contacts to form DNA groups. This will prove without a doubt that you have mutual ancestors, but will not be conclusive as to which ones. It does rule out the "milkman" syndrome that physical records do not account for (accidental conception and lies about birth fathers).

Yes there are. They are about 1.2 million dollars. National Geographic now offers what you are looking for with a DNA matching program that can run you from $100 to $500 depending on how much you want to know. It will determine your ancestry and even show you the route your ancestors finally came to this country.

Yes. There is DNA testing. To have it work you have to be the son of the son of the son . . . because it works on the Y chromosone.

So, for instance, if your last name was Pack and my last name was Pack, and we BOTH had our DNA tested, and we matched on 57 markers, we could be reasonable sure our GGGGGfather was the same man.
