I know I'll get a lot of you are crazy or stupid or seek help responces, but I already think I am worthless and don't need any help in the negative thought department. So my question is why don't I feel pain when I intentionally cut, burn, or hit myself but I do when it's an accident or someone else doing it? Also why do doctors not use pain numbing medication when they are treating (stitches) self inflicted injuries...even if you ask for them? Is it normal to not feel anything physically? I accidently cut deeper than I intended to because I couldn't feel it.

Bless your heart! You need to STOP hurting yourself. You can get help for that, ya know. The reason why drs. don't use pain numbing medication on you is they feel that if you can cut yourself then you must be able to stand pain or they think all you want is pain medication. Please get help! Please stop hurting yourself. It's just wrong! I'm not putting you down either...I'm just truyly concerned even though I don't know you.

The sensation of pain is a result of recognition. When we are sedated, the mechanics there are, the sedative working on either receptors of the message to feel pain, or on the neurotransmitter sending the message, or by interrupting the message somewhere in between. If the message that there should be pain does not reach the central nervous system then there is no pain. I think that is why you are able to mutilate yourself and not feel it. You are premeditating it and therefore, somehow refusing to feel it. When an outside source delivers it, there is no thinking about it and then your body reacts like it should. Pain is the first line in healing, and it is the first line in defense, and by that I wouldn't mess with it too much unless you do have a death wish. About being worthless, I'm sorry that you could not come up with something more original, and more accurate, as everything has worth, look for it. As far as the doctors not numbing before stitches etc., it usually depends on the nature of the injury, the age of the patient, the nerves that are around to deaden, the patients condition, allergies and so on. If someone got into a fight at a bar where they had been drinking, giving them pain killers would kill more than the pain. Please try and get off that worthless crap and do your part ok.

I'm sorry to here that you're not feeling good. It's good that you're seeing a counselor, but they really aren't the place to start. I'm not going to tell you to go to a psychiatrist and be judged "mentally ill" for your negative thoughts -- being "diagnosed" with a "mental illness" is a very invalidating sort of experience.
There are many medical (not psychiatric) reasons that could cause your negative thoughts. You should go to a competent medical doctor and get a blood test to see if you have a vitamin deficiency, a lack of certain amino acids, or a hormonal imbalance. All can cause you to have problems such as those you're experiencing. You can find a good doctor here: http://www.alternativementalhealth.com I personally have experienced feelings of anxiety and depression and was found to have a vitamin deficiency in B12 and Calcium (deficiencies in B12 and calcium cause depression and confused thinking) and I'm now on megavitamin therapy which is helping.
Just be sure you don't go to a psychiatrist. They're quacks and their theories are unproven. They do no tests. They just label people and prescribe dangerous drugs. Learn the truth about psychiatry here: http://www.cchr.org It's a Human Rights group that works for psychiatric reform.

Do you feel happy to make a self injury to feel the pain? It looks you want to enjoy the feeling of the pain! Hurting yourself is a dangerous test on you!
I read about it in a medical journel some times back. It is said that the precise cells connected to feeling (neuron??) during the transfer of data from cell to cell identifies/recognizes the nature of the injury and in the human brain blocks that pain, once it is self inflicted. Incase the injury is caused by any out sde source beyond your recognition, it transfers the pain and person feels.

Have you hurt yourself many times in that area? You may have severed some nerves or something. I don't think you're crazy. You just need to talk to someone. Cutting yourself never gets you anywhere. I did it for a little while and sure it made me feel better for a little while. But then I just felt awful every time I did it. I had to hide my arms from people and wear long sleeve shirts all the time. Then when people noticed, it was awful to have to talk about it.

Pain and all other sensation of touch are nothing but information to the brain. The concept of mind over matter really does exist and for some reason you may be simply not accepting, or possibly ignoring, the pain. Either way your brain seems to have made the decision to turn it off for some reason.

When you're depressed, things get screwy. Things that should hurt you don't seem to, and things that shouldn't hurt you do. I know you aren't welcoming this particular advice, but please do seek help from a qualified professional. You aren't worthless.
