Would it be better to buy them from a shelter or a breeder?

Go to your SPCA, google "(breed) rescues" if you want a certain breed of cat ie: "siamese recues", and you can narrow down your search to your area, too. There are so many cats looking for new homes either because their owners didn't want them, spiteful breakups in their owners, behavioral problems (that can usually be corrected very easily), unwanted litters of kittens, seniors with a lot of love to give, and a lot of others. Plus, you usually have less problems with a mixed breed pet then a pure bred, because of the selective breeding programs and stuff.
Good Luck

It depends on what you want if you want a special breed maybe you better go and see some breeders and buy the kittens at a place where you can see that the owner takes very good care of his kittens and other cats and where everything looks clean.
But if it doesn't matter to you I would go to an animal shelter. There are so many sweet and cute cats and lots of kittens waiting for a nice place to come home to and there are a lot to chose from and if it's a good shelter they will also give you all the advice you need to take good care of your kittens just like a breeder does or better is supposed to do. I have 3 cats. Two of them are from an animal shelter they came to live with us when they were only 3 months old. they are 2 brothers and they are a very fun couple. The third cat we found last year as a kitten in the forest and instead of bringing it to the shelter my mother decide to keep her because she was only about 3 weeks old. It was a lot of work but all 3 are the best of friends and they show that you do not need to have a expensive kitten from a breeder but that there are enough very sweet kittens in a shelter.

I would go with BassCatcher on this. Adopting cats from an animal shelter will save lives, and the people working there can help you choose the right kittens for you. Buying from a reliable and competent breeder is also a solution, but it does nothing to help end the animal overpopulation problem and ensuing mass euthanasias :(

If you want a pure bred, then you'll have to go to a breeder.

However, if you just want a cat, go and get them from a place where if you don't they might not get a life.

I got two back in 1990 from a shelter. One died earlier this year but I still have the other. 16 years is a good age for a cat and both of them have been our best friend all these years.

We saved them and they loved us for it.

It’s much better to buy them from a shelter. They’ll cost a lot less, and you’ll be saving them from possible euthanasia. Unless you’re planning to show the cats, it’s insane to pay a breeder’s price for them.

Go to the shelter and save a life. Get just general ordinary kittens too...no purebreds. Purebreds can have medical complications later in life.

It relies upon on the cat. some cats are self reliant, or perhaps as presented to a house they prefer it. self reliant cats love being the major cat having each thing to their selves. yet when there's a yet another cat in the abode, the cat will grow to be jealous desiring more effective interest. Like I reported, it relies upon on the cat. some cats get very lonely and could be in determined desire of interest which includes wailing in the course of the evening, transforming into very depressed, and different adverse issues. i'd get a million kitten and be conscious the way it reacts being the in uncomplicated words cat in the abode for the subsequent few days, and if it reacts badly i'd recommend getting yet another one. wish this helps! (i'd get a kitten from a take care of)

I would get them from a shelter so you can save two kittens that will most likely be killed. Wouldn't you feel good knowing you save them? I know I would.

shelter/humane society. The cat will have all its shots and be spayed/neutered! I believe buying from the humane society also GUARANTEES the health of your pet for a short while.... so if it gets sick you can bring kitty back and they will either fix her or replace her. AND your cat will cost much less.

OR go to Craigslist and get a cat for free; although it may not be a kitten and it may not be spayed, neutered, or even have shots.

Save a kitty from the streets and get them from the shelter. You will feel good that you have saved a life.
