I would say that God is a terminology used for the known
facts that actually happened, where there is proof and we
are missing the author of these deeds! So religions give the
author a name in order make references. I am a Christian
and also find some difficulty with the question that you pose
so correctly. I am a Presbyterian (church of Scotland) and I
believe that Jesus was a normal man, but had extraordinary
knowledge which surpassed even the wisest of men in his time.
But now, 2.000 years later and with a lot o science behind us,
and proven knowledge which is essential to achieve any
recognition in these days, I am certain that Jesus is the last
true prophet ever. Other religions will have a different name
for this phenomena, however it will all spill into the same boiling
pot! Sincerely, my friend, as you posed the question, I would like
to take the subject in depth and eye to eye, for I think I could learn
as much (perhaps more) from you than you from me. You see, I
am a researcher and analyst which covers astrophysics, maths,
nanotecnology, gravitational and centrifugal forces, ecology and
general scientific knowledge, and none of these subjects see
"eye to eye" with your question. I would like to dismiss science
and stick to your question for, if I could, thinking would not have
any conflict. I live in São Paulo, Brazil. However, I sign my real
name so I do not hide. But I can not give my e-mail since this is
not the purpose of this site, and you can be sure that I only answer
serious and well intended questions, no matter the subject. So my
friend, for the time being and however it may be, God Bless You
for asking a very pertinent question which was very well timed.
Cheers. Iain
PS . I have taken note of your name and will be on watch for
your comments, questions or answers.

look at the bumblebee!
Studies by aerodynamics professionals have concluded that given its weight -wingspan-biostructure there is no way on earth that the average bumblebee can fly, or even lift its own body weight off the ground.. and yet they do, in complete defiance of all physics. These aerodynamic scientists call it "unexplained", "preposterous", "a miracle" and "proof of intelligent design, higher than known physics".
Then again there's always the Golden Ratio 1.61803399 as proof of intelligent design!!!
The theory of the Big Bang & Evolution has been explained as :
"Imagine an explosion in a brick factory.. the result is the British Museum with all of its artefacts" ... thats how likely it is!
Few know or care to publicise that Darwin recanted his "theories" before he died!
That JC is the One? Ask him to show you, mean it, and He will!
respect!

I took a peek at some of the answers before attempting this one. Well, that is kindof like asking your friend to find the solution in the Bible, or quoting the Bible. We all know the answers are there, but perhaps that is not what he is looking for.
I believe that God makes himself known to us. Its not something I can prove for another person, because the implicit problem is that they are their own expert on their own experiences. Its sortof like a non-christian bias. Faith is the only answer in this case.
I get absolute proof all the time, usually through prayer. not by itself, of course, but always with faith. Example: I was reading the passage about our righteousness being as filthy rags to god...you know I was always taught in church this was meant to mean that works-based religions were wrong.
When reading this passage, i reflected that at work we have these shop rags. If at the end of the shift, all I had were clean rags it would mean I didn't do any work. My boss wants to see dirty rags... the filthier the better. It means I have been doing my job.
I never heard this interpretation in church, TV, or on the radio. I didn't read it anywhere, and I didn't make it up. So how do I know this? How is it relavant to anyone? Perhaps it isn't, but it is relavent to me. It means something to me in my relationship to God, and the way he makes himself evident to me.
Another example... reading medieval christian literature about angels, and angel cults (as an aside, angels intrigue me), early christian literature about the types of angels there are, and a lot of this stuff is simply non-biblical. So I'm reading about throne angels, and I realize (when I say realize, i don't mean to imply that I made this up) that the passover angel was a throne angel. I know I didn't make this up. Of course, its not something I can prove, and its certainly not biblical.
Anyway, that last one gave me that feeling like the fear of God. I don't need any more proof. I'm just glad I'm on his side.

The Fool Has Said . . .
Atheists are naturally offended by the Bible’s declaration that “the fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Ps. 14:1a; 53:1a). The meaning of this statement is not that atheists are stupid or lacking in intelligence, but that the denial of God is evidence of the moral corruption in their thinking. Nor is this statement aimed solely at atheists per se. The very next lines assert that “there is none who does good” and that they have all “become corrupt” (Ps. 14:1b-3; 53:1b-3). The apostle Paul quotes these lines to prove that all human beings are morally corrupt and deserve God’s judgment (Rom. 3:9-12).
The folly or foolishness of atheism, then, is ultimately just one particularly overt expression of the universal impulse in human beings to turn away from the true and living God and to follow a path of their own choosing. If the Bible is right, atheism will fall into patent foolishness, not because atheists are intellectually challenged but because they are intellectually prejudiced against God. Moreover, in discerning the foolishness of atheism we will also be seeing the foolishness to which we are all prey apart from God’s gracious revelation of himself to us.

The day God can be proven by human philosophy or reasoning, thats the day God becomes irrelavent. A person who needs proof that God is real is wasting his or her time. All the long answers will prove nothing.

I would say that the answer is in nature and ourselves. How else could we be created in such detail?
How else was the Earth created? The big bang could not have happened on it's own.
I would show them people who's lives have been changed by God. This is proof that he is still around today.
This person needs to experience God for themselves as well.

I'm agnostic, and I believe that God exists. Jesus may have existed, but he's not God. Just because a book claims what you believe, doesn't make it true. The Bible, as with all other religious books of all religions, are flawed, man-made books, written by questionable men with their own personal agendas.

Once a day every day for 30 days ask in earnestness, God are you real and is Jesus Christ the only way, truth and the life? And then pay attention every day to if you see a display of an answer.
If you haven't been given a clear answer in that time frame, you've missed all the opportunities you were asking for him to present himself because you weren't paying attention in earnest.

Can I convince you that there is air? You can't see it but you can feel it and you know its there! I wouldn't want to convince anyone as I am not a priest. It is up to you to think clearly and make your own decisions. Read as much as you can on the subject and then decide. My belief? I feel that if we are fair, honest and kind that is all that is required of us no matter what your religion is. You can have good and bad Christians, good and bad Moslems good and bad Buddhists good and bad Jews.We are not God to decide who is good and who is bad nor are we God to make decisions for others. God gave us a mind to think for ourselves.

I would tell them to talk to God about it. In prayer, find a church to attend, and read the Bible. God is the only One who can reveal Himself to anyone. No one can PROVE to anyone that God does or doesn't exist, that's His job. The previously mentioned going to church, prayer, and reading the Bible will make it happen. Just have to be patient...who knows maybe He'll reveal himself very quickly. But maybe he won't. I'll tell you what I do know, He won't reveal himself until He knows you are ready to accept it, whether you believe you are or not. So be patient if it doesn't happen right away, God shows up when the time is right.
