I doubt that there are many children who are capable of choosing which religion is right for themselves. Why do parents choose to impose their religions upon children who do not know any better? How many of you still follow the religion that your parents brought you up on?

All parents want to instill their beliefs in their children. That doesn't make it right, but they do.

I was brought up Roman Catholic and was sent to Catholic school from 6th to 12th grade. I was baptized (shortly after I was born), made first communion (at age 7), and was even confirmed (at 14). By the time I was 15, I had realized that the only reason I had been a Catholic was because my parents and peers were. The idea of a God began to seem foolish to me, and I became an atheist. That didn't go down well with the parents, but too bad. I had been initiated into a religion at birth then "confirmed" myself into it while merely a child of 14. Parents have their kids go through these rituals before they are even old enough to know what they mean; it's ridiculous.

Until a child is old enough to decide for themselves it is the responsibility of the parents to teach them what they believe to be right. After children get older, at some point they will all question the religion they were brought up with. Some will choose another. A good open minded parent will accept their child's decision.

I do not practice the religion of my parents. My mother is an excellent woman and a Christian. My father is an excellent man and a Theist. He does not follow any religion and simply believes God is real. That is more then enough for him. My entire childhood I was raised Christian. I never felt it was ment for me, even when I was a little kid. I had my own truth and followed it to the letter. Later on I realized that people like me have a religious title. It is formally refered to as an Occultist. That merely means I am a person who seeks the hidden truth in all things. At the same time I am also a Cultist. Meaning I follow the path of an unorthodox doctorine.

Children are smart beings, give them a little credit.

I was raised by Christian parents in the church. I am still a Christian and I will always be one.

Parents teach their children about religion and that their way of worship is correct because that is the duty of the parents. As children get older, they will be exposed to different religions and then they can choose which path to take. I chose to be a Christian because I believe in God and that Jesus is the son of God who died so that we will be able to go to Heaven someday. I was not forced to believe a certain way. I make my own decisions.

It is a start to religious training. If when the child reaches leagal age or before they can say that they do not like our believe in that religion. and then the parents can let the child chose which one is more to their liking or not have any. Their friends and classmates or reatives will have some part in the childs choice if they are of a different sect or religion.

I haven't a clue why but it's ridiculous. My children will have the freedom to choose when they know better. If they ask though, I will tell them what I think. My parents didn't belong to a religion, but I found one.

I do not practice my parent's religion, but the reason they do it is that they believe they are correct in their beliefs. I am Atheists and have two boys. I will definitely be teaching them this. I will definitely educate them of the reasons I believe this and will let them make their own decisions on it.

i think that it shouldnt be forced on them. My mom's rule is you have to go to church if you live in her house but you dont have to practice it. I think that children should be allowed to choose when they get older but when they are young its just easier to bring them
