By trying to fully understand your enemy all you do is trap yourself in an endless mind game. I personally dont think I am capable of fully understanding my enemy but does that mean I should not try?

There's a big difference in understanding your enemy and emulating or symphathizing with him. You need to understand his motivations so that you can anticipate his actions, but you don't want to try to emulate his thinking to do this. You want to know yourself even better.

Consider Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin. They were very opposite in their views but they so well understood each other's motivations and could so well anticipate each other's actions that they became the anthesis of each other and battled for years without one being able to decisively defeat the other. Perhaps they fell into the trap of know their enemy better than themselves.

Very good question.

You avoid the mind game by not understanding with the mind.

What a load of BS, right? Maybe so, maybe no. The only way to discover the truth is through meditation.

it's very dangerous to understand your enemy. If you'll deeply understand your enemy you'll probably start to hate your self. Or you'll even join them. So going deeply into your enemy is not the wright way to understand them. As long you have that "moral border" between you and them it's safe for you own ideology for your own being to survive.

The same situation is with mental patient and the psychiatrist. At the moment that the doctor fully understands his patient his is in trouble, the doctor lost his "sanity border" and can't see difference between the reality and sick mind.
You'll never hear muslims criticizing terrorists, or they religion. They hold to they own "moral" which they call justified trues, so my friend hold to your own trues no matter how justified it is, you need it to survive this battle of minds and media or ground battles. And no matter how your government "bad" they say it is yours, so stick to that to the very end.

There is a saying. "When two guys fight, the meanest one will win."
That usually means that one of the two will be more determined because of something going on in his life. If I got into a bar fight with a drunk who was mean because of the beer then I would probably beat him. If I got into a fight with a guy who just lost his job and wife then he's got all of that built up inside and he's going to let it go on me. There's very little chance I'll win because he's crazy mad.
You can't judge an opponent unless you know everything about him and if you know that much about a person you're usually their friend.
Don't worry about the other guy, worry about yourself. Concentrate on your skills.

They are human just like us, same feelings and failings, use these to your advantage and that might mean never striking out, such is the nature of what you are asking. The biggest demons to conquer are in ourselves, start there and you will become unbeatable through time

From personal training in the art of TaeKwonDo, my instructor told me to watch my opponents eyes and his body movements, if you see where he looking and you see what your opponents body movements are, you will have a good idea what he or she may do, and/or you'll know were your opponent will strike.

By understanding your enemy, you are basiclly trying to get an idea of what your enemy knows of you , what style does he study, if one if not how will he attack you , will he attack you , is he irratated? is he angry, or ???
