I am here in the Philippines with my fiance. We are planning a civil wedding. Will it take longer to bring her to the states than if i filed for a fiance visa.

The fiance visa is new to me, but I know that an immigrant visa petition - in which you apply to the consulate for a visa for a spouse for purposes of immigrating to the US - is a fairly straightforward process, provided you meet the residency and financial support criteria.

This presupposes, however, that YOU are a US citizen (not a green card holder). If you are not a US citizen yourself, then your wife to be will not qualify for the fiancee visa and her immigration visa will be subject to additional processing. In this case, she will have to wait from the Philipines for the application to be approved, a process that can literally take years.

Some couples in this situation (i.e. neither is a citizen of the US) have opted to have tourist visa marriages - wherein the woman comes to the US on a tourist visa, your marriage takes place, and you process her green card application from here.

NOTE: This is NOT legal, and if the US government suspects that she came here solely for the purpose of the marriage, then both of you could face penalties.

Good luck, whatever your situation may be, and I hope this helps some.

Fiance visa is better. She can come to the USA and decide if she truly likes it here before getting married.

Fiance visas are assigned each year on a quota. If you apply now you can probably get one in January when the new quota is released.

Even with the Fiance visa, you could still get married in the Philippines first. Just don't tell the USA. Then get married (again) in the USA.

If you go the route of getting married in the Philippines instead of the fiance visa, then you must apply for a visa after you get married to bring her to the USA. I don't know how long that can take and I don't know if it is automatic or not.

My Fiance' is coming to Australia on a Fiance' visa, it will still take 6+ months but If we were to marry in Philippines it could take another 3 months on top, I'm not sure how the USA works but at least its a hint good luck & many years of happiness to you both.

Bring her to the US on a fiance visa. I think if she marries you in the Phillipines, you will have to go through the lengthier process of bringing her to the US as your wife. There is no automatic pass if she's currently out of the US.... I think.

i think philippines is better. we (women) dont like having long enagements. but it should be up to your fiance as well after all its her wedding too. Also think about if she needs a visa wouldnt her family need one too? or others that dont live in the us?
