The original question was asked in the sense of it being correct (or technically possible) for one to claim a belief in faith (or the ideology that things are meant to be and happen for a reason, if you will) yet not necessarily believe in a higher power. Are the two connected hand-in-hand? Is it possible to concretely believe in one aspect without the other?

Without God - there is no reason.

It is really based on what you deem as a "higher power" and the "abilities thereof"? A person can have the devil as his higher power, another a rock and another Islam. The "higher power" movement is a masquerade for those who don't want to accept the Word of God as the Truth the only Truth that reveals the Only God. Accept that and you reject all other "higher powers" for the Faith that only comes through Jesus Christ, who was born, died and buried and was raised the third day according to the scriptures that make you wise unto salvation. Reject that and you have to accept everything else as truths and not falsehoods.

Secondly what you are talking about is fate. People can and do believe in fate despite not having a religion, or faith!

I am persuaded there is only one destiny - That Jesus was crucified before the foundation of the world - all else hinges on this.

You are free to chose or not to choose Christ, and you are free to practice whatever "your higher power" tickles your fancy - there is a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof is death.

I have no idea how you would come to that conclusion without faith in something.

It's like I have no idea why you would want to go on living without there being a purpose to life. I don't understand many of the things that happen or why they happen. But if I didn't believe in a supreme being and an afterlife I'd blow my brains out and put an end to what I was going through. After all if there's no supreme being and an afterlife, why am I putting up with this mess?

I think without believing in a higher power, it is hard to make sense of things that happen.

The believer may not believe in a higher humanoid or conscious higher power. Maybe that person believes in a universal law, some kind of prim postulate.

Nothing happens by chance. Such a belief is atheistic or agnostic at best. There must a a specific cause for every result. In other words, ther must be an intelligence behind everything that occurs. This intelligence we call God. God is a person who creates. All results are either constructive or destructive---there is nothing static in this universe. God is the constructive force and Satan---one of God's creations---is the destructive force. It is through Satan that sin entered creation. It is sin that is the destructive tool of Satan. Love, forgiveness and mercy are the constructive forces of God. Without faith in God a person can only believe in chance and chaos.

NO I do not believe you can say things happen for a reason without believing there is a a GOD. How else do you think that happens by chance?? I think not put your trust in JESUS and you will see the truth. I am not preaching to you but you seem like you are at least questioning that there could be a Creator.......Right???

I believe that those who use this without believing in a higher power are afraid to recognize God. many people take longer than necessary and continue to shut out God and use karma or fate as an excuse. you see, IMHO once they acknowledge God, then then have to live according to His Teachings - and that ain't easy!

"Faith is the SUBSTANCE of things hoped for, the EVIDENCE of things not seen" All hope comes from GOD and you have to KNOW HIM to TRUST HIM without evidence, or proof, that things happen for a reason. So, simply put, without trust in God, that can't be.

Things happen because of the events that led up to them.
You can call it karma, consequences, preparation.
Action/reaction. It is a law. What you sow, you are gonna reap.
It is God's Law, whether you believe in Him or not.

Why not ? It is possible to explain every phenomenon in this universe on the basis of Science, esp. laws of Physics.
