I read this in a book a long time ago, and it works for me...
In bed, with your eyes closed, imagine a chalkboard, a piece of chalk and an eraser. Pick up the chalk, and write the number "100" on the board. Then, put down the chalk and pick up the eraser, and erase the number. Pick up the chalk again, write "99" and keep going from there, erasing each number and then writing the next.
It sounds little bit corny, but it worked wonders for me in high school. Usually I get to 75 and I'm asleep. I can't say why it works, but it's proven effective for me.

Diet and exercise patterns can sometimes be to blame. If you are not getting enough exercise you should try doing at least half an hour a day (but make sure it is not close to your bedtime or your adrenaline levels will be too high).
Have some quiet time before going to bed. Turn off the TV, read a book, do some craft - whatever you find relaxing.

That is horrible. I have that problem too! Sometimes I think that if i just stop thinking about anything and everything I'll be able to get to sleep faster.... I tried that and it didn't work. So, the only way i get to sleep in less then 30 minuets is when I get only 3 hours of sleep the night before and go to sleep the moment i feel so fatigued I could die. That's how. But it isn't fun.
I'm not a fan on pills, never really need them, even Tylenol... so yeah...

Have you tried melatonin? You can buy it over the counter. It's a chemical the body naturally produces to help you fall asleep. Try taking it for a few days to help regulate your sleeping schedule. If you can't fall asleep without it, I would suggest getting on Lunesta, or another sleeping aid. Whatever you do, if you decide on something you need every night, make sure you get on a medicine that is non-addicting. Good luck !

A nice hot bath before you go to sleep is good. The smell of lavender seems to help calm most people. And I usually read. Music helps some people. Experiment until you find the things that work for you. If you still don't get enough sleep, go see the doctor.

Write first: journal, blog, whatever. It gets it out so that you're not lying awake thinking about fifty million things. Then count backwards from 100. You may have to do this more than once... If all else fails, a good glass of wine will usually do the trick.

Are you on your vacations? Because this kind of sleeping problem occurs only when you have disturbed your daily routine. If you like music try listening it at night. But,be careful you are not to disturb others.Try watching a boring television which you hate the most.Or just lie on your bed and shut your eyes and think of something nice that gives you happiness

Might have problems that keep on haunting you, make sure that you say a little spontaneous prayer and ask for a guidance from the Divine Providence.
