I have been reading the bible on this. One reason is my friend claims she saved and goes back to her old ways the next day. As followers of Jesus it's hard at time and it would be easier for us to go back to the world , but I have the desire to live for him and not of this world like I once had. Alot of verses in the bible that talks about this. The point is really your either for God or the devil No middle and we all know God is Good and the Devil is Evil!! Just going to see what everyone thought on this matter.

I got some nice answers and some not so nice!! I don't think I'm closed minded the verses I wrote backs what I say up. The road to heaven will be narrow stated in the bible. Also , since you call me close minded they were only 8 humans when God took the ENTIRE WORLD the first time it's not going to be that easy for us either. All i'm saying is alot of people claim ( christain ) christ like and out living it up in the world and it's not going to be that easy for them..

The Bible is clear that once a person becomes a Christian, they can not lose their salvation. A person can lose their fellowship with God but never their position as a child of God.

The Bible tells us that when we accept Christ as our Savior, we become the children of God (John 1:12). After you become His child, He deals with us as we would with our own children. When we disobey Him, He will punish us as we do our children (Hebrews 12:5-11). God knows what it will take to punish us to get our attention and just how much punishment that we need.

The difference between Christianity and any other religions of the world is that religions teach us that we must work our way to Heaven (I don't really even like to call Christianity a religion). A work is anything that we must do or give up in order to win favor with God so that He will let us into Heaven.

The Bible teaches us that God did it all by sending His Son, Jesus Christ come to this earth and live among us as one of us. He lived a perfect sinless life while on this earth. That is the reason that He could take the sins of the whole world and make a payment for them all on the cross. When you believe in the Gospel, you are covered with the blood of the lamb. The blood of Jesus. He died for our sins.

Works have no part in it (Ephesians 2:8,9 & Titus 3:5,6). Christianity is the only religion in the world that tells us that we can KNOW that we have everlasting life (I John 5:13). If it were possible to lose your salvation, you could never know that you have everlasting life because you would always be in danger of losing it.

In fact, in Hebrews 6:4-6 the Bible tells us that if it even were possible for a Christian to lose their salvation, they could never get it back again because Christ would have to die on the cross a second time which of course will never happen.

When God does something, He does it right the first time. Jesus paid for all of your sins. This means that your past, present, and future sins have already been paid for by His death on the cross. In John 6:47 we read He that believeth on me hath (This means right now) everlasting life.

Everlasting life is not something to look forward to, it is something that we as Christians have right now according to this verse. If we could lose it, it wouldn't be everlasting life. It would only be life until we displeased God.

Blessings to you all,
Raylene♥

Once saved, always saved is NOT in the Bible anywhere.
Once you are saved by the blood of Jesus, we do not want to sin again. Thus said, we do not go back into the world and do the same things again, ie., drink, fornicate, adultery, lie, murder, steal, cheat, blaspheme, etc. If you are truly saved, you know that you are supposed to walk the walk of Christ as close as possible. And you know that to sin is to give up this walk and salvation. After giving up something, do you still have it? No, you have to start all over again by asking for forgiveness, and understanding what it means to be saved.
I don't know who started this "once saved, always saved" but that is just a way to say getting to heaven is so easy, you can do anything you want to and still get in.
Not in the Heaven I plan on going to.
Best of luck to you.

While it is true GOD will never leave you, but you can turn your back on Him, and walk away from your salvation.

Once saved always saved is a lie that was made up to make people feel better when they sin. It is a very dangerous thing to teach, and is most widely believed in the Baptist camp. They say that if you sin you were never saved to begin with, what a tool for the devil that is.

The truth is when you sin you must repent. Even if you do it 1000 times per day repent.

There is a salvation of repentance that is no longer truly what is preached - so a lot of people seem to believe they are saved when in fact they are not, because they have no desire to repent - turn away from their worldy ways - and yes, once you have been convicted and repent - turn away from, there is always a moment where you fall, but you almost immediately get up and say, I don't want it to be this way and you confess - this is an issue that almost all denominations have let slide and it is going to cost a lot of people the security of their souls. Because once you have experienced and seen the sins of your life the way Christ sees, them, you are absolutely right, you don't want to go back to that way and people who do - they haven't met the real Jesus Christ yet.

Mat24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Speaks of the elect of the end time-

Luke12:45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
Again the last days (was saved and lost it)

Luke 14:34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
(if you lose your faith how will you be saved)

It is possible to be a YO-YO! saved, unsaved, saved, unsaved. Where the wheel stops nobody...

You don't have to be SAVED AGAIN!
That is all you did was walk away, the returning is to seek in your heart forgiveness for walking away, you do not re-find Christ. We live still under mercy where you can come back to him.

A yo yo has a problem you will find that they tend to spend longer and longer times away from Christ and less and less time with Christ, to some point he won't come back and is lost.

Great to see you did your homework on some verses there. You are totally right that a person who claims to be saved but lives in sin is probably not saved. I think we get confused in our terms though. I don't think a person can lose their salvation. You lose your keys or your sunglasses you don't just wake up one day and then you can't find Jesus. You can leave your salvation. If a person who was once saved walks away from their relationship with Jesus they will not go to heaven (Hebrews 6:4-6). So in essence I do not believe in once saved always saved. However if you are a Christian and you sin one day that does not mean you are no longer a Christian. It means you made a bad decision and need to repent but God loves you and will forgive you. A Christian who sins may hinder their relationship with God but they can repent and remain saved in Jesus. A good verse to explain this is John 10:28 "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand." If you are in Jesus' hand then you are saved and no one can take you out. If you chose to leave His hand by living in sin and not being obedient to the Word of God then there is no promise of heaven. So it's simple, stay in His hand and you are secure. But if you chose to walk out He will respect your free will.

The doctrine "once saved always saved" was invented by protestants, along with other manmade doctrines like "the bible alone", "faith alone" and never taught by Our Lord.

Luther carried it to the extremes saying that you could commit murder and adultery a 1000 times a day just trust in Christ and you'll get to heaven anyway.

I find the doctrine absurd and blasphemous.

I believe that God resides behind a door to your heart, so to speak, and if you invite God in then He will live happily within you, however, if you neglect Him, or kick Him out, then He will leave you just as quickly. the good thing is He will always be there waiting for you again, all you have to do is ask.

I believe so. I mean, God knows that we're going to mess up regardless but it is our duty to God to still ask for his forgiveness of our sins daily. After-all, we are God's children & children do make mistakes but He expects us to learn from them the first time.
