I have sent a reg. letter of demand in regards a person running into my car. Originally he said he would pay for the damage but now he wont even respond to the letter. I have proof he did it, what is the next step (frustrated)

Forget a lawyer -- they will only take 40% (or more) of a settlement. Let your collision ins. handle this. They have an army of lawyers and experts who deal with this kind of pond scum everyday. Just make sure you keep records and forward any documents related to this incident to your claims adjuster.

File a claim with your insurance company, they will subrogate the claim and their attorneys will go after the responsilbe party.

File a police report immediately.

You should have filed a police report at the time of the accident. This is the biggest mistake that anyone can make. Contact his insurance, contact your insurance, and contact the police.

Call the police and tell them the problem. They can file an accident report and go from there.
