Great question... the answer is that it gives a foothold to your anger and allows unforgiveness and bitterness to take root. We should surrender our anger to the Lord and allow His peace to replace the anger. As we forgive others and walk in the joy of the Lord, there is no reason to go to bed with bitterness in our hearts. Just think of all you have done that is wrong (sins). Christ offers full pardon and forgiveness to you, our response to others should be likewise.

Because anger is an emotion that can consume a person if it is not resolved. That's why the Scriptures go on to warn a person about staying angry and giving the Devil a foothold in their life. Instead you should give it up to God in prayer so that the peace that goes beyond all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6,7

When you are asleep, you are unconscious to what is going on in the spiritual realm. If you go to bed angry it will leave you open to attacks from the devil. Also you will find that an angry heart dies younger than a heart that is not angry. the Bible is full of principles that most people ignore. but they are there for a reason.

It's just a wise decision. Practically you sleep better. Plus Peter writes about how having a strained relationship with your spouse can hinder your prayer life. So if you go to bed angry with your spouse and your prayers may be hindered.

Because forgiveness sets you free. Anger harbours resentment and makes you miserable and sinical. Don't take the scripture too literally, it just means not to hold on to anger for a long time, but to forgive.

This is not only a christian thing. Ever heard of the woman who went to bed so angry at her husband, that during her sleep she killed him? The subconscious is a strange thing.

You dream angry dreams and you are restless and since you didn't sleep well, you will be crappy at work the next day...this God knew so He put it in the Bible (I used Billy Crystals' old man Jewish voice on that last part, how did it soound?)

Read on . . . .it gives the Devil a foot hold . .. .in your mind, in your heart.

Anger makes the Devil feel at home. It opens the door for him. Understand?

Good luck to you my friend. God Bless you. Thank you for being here tonight.
