because other countrys are at war with the US flying planes in to buildings and trying to lanch missiles across the pacific.
if you have a gun and someone pulls a gun on you and they are clearly going to shoot you, do you stand there and let them kill you or do you shoot them first? its them or you.
if US doesnt stop the attacks on them now, the attacks will continue and they will continue to succeed as planned. they are defending their country and the countrys that are in the middle of civil wars

Mostly because it's not really very good at it. There are many other countries that have been superpowers and managed to control their sphere of influence efectively. Historically the US goes off, fights a war, then ends up having to go back and fights it again a few years later. It's very bad at planning. Whether this is part of a conspiracy to sell more weapons or not is dependent on who you talk to - but the fact is, World war one had to be fought a second time. Vietnam was a mess and ended up as just another sideshow in the Cold War. Gulf War two follows Gulf War 1. The US rarely actually 'wins' a war in the sense that a country is conquered and beaten and finished. Even in the case of World War 2 - there's an awful lot of Toyotas and Mercedes around on the US roads, and Daimler owns most of Chrysler... All the military might in the world doesn't add up to much if you keep loosing the peace.

I think it's always been about power. If you look history countries involved have been Germany, Cuba, Vietnam and now Iraq/Middle East. Each of these have had leaders that are controlling and confrontational. (Not peace lovers to say the least!).
The US always seem to get involved because they are a powerful country and one of few that helps other weaker countries as well. This has put us in the direct line of fire.
Weaker countries were at risk at being totally destroyed without our involvement which makes me think if we hadn't been involved, they may not have survived. I don't agree with war at all. There must be some way that agreements can be made without harming innocents, but so far no one has tried this! They act like a bunch of children fighting in a school yard.

Always at war? When is the U.S. always at war? For the most part, we stay out of the wars that happen. We only get involved if things get bad; ergo, Nazis, Vietnam, Gulf War (during the Clinton administration), Iraq, blah blah blah. People need to stop their complaining, if you love terrorists so much then you should have lived in Iraq so you could hang with them. Be chillin wit yo home boi's bustin caps every which way, all those crackas and--yeah, have fun with that

Bush Sr. 4 years = at war with Iraq
Clinton 8 years = no wars
GW Bush 8 years = at war with Iraq
Clinton 8 years with no wars obviously you must be dense or were too young to remember the little skirmishes Clinton got us involved in. Considering I fought in most of them let me give you a hand as your too ignorant to use google
Somalia
Bosnia
Kosovo
Haiti
Iraq (not a war per se but we made MANY a trip to the mideast everytime Hussein sneezed under Clinton and came back 6 mo later only to go back come home go back come home numerous times).

what you have a problem with that your next I'm just kidding its unfortunate we have become the police of the world but somebody does have to do it world war two started because nobody would step in and stop Hitler in Germany and Tojo in japan and fifty million people died in that war if we had a world war today the dead would be in the billions. in world war two the united states didn't enter the war til it was well out of control fact is we had one of the smallest military in the world and we could of lost the war due to this . i think its better to be prepared and fight smaller wars then than one big world war where nuclear weapons would most likely be used.never be caught off guard and never let this happen again don't think for a minute it couldn't happen again "remember your history you be doomed to repeat it"

The United States isn't always at war with another country. In fact, right now, we are at war with Terrorists, not any country.

I don't think they WANT war. It happens for a reason. Don't listen to any crap about keeping Republicans in office. NO ONE asked for September 11, 2001. It happened, and we're forced to deal with it. Since then, we've learned of more terrorist organizations that also need to be dealt with.
If it were up to the liberals, we'd give them all a big mushy kiss and a daisy, then everyone would go hit the pipe.

They arent. Before the first Gulf war, we werent at war at all untill you go back to Vietnam. Between the Gulf war, which didnt last long at all, weve only had Clinton attack Iraq for a day, and the current Iraq war and Afghanistan.

The U.S. never seems to accept that its problems may be internally caused. Some country or person extra U.S. always seems to be the cause.
The Mexican immigration problem is not U.S. businesses demanding and employing illegal immigrants, but poverty in Mexico.
America's drug problem is not Americans unsatiable appetite for "hits and highs", but Colombian drug lords producing and supplying cocaine.
And Iraq! It's Saddam Hussein, not America's addiction to oil.
As long as America continues to externalize the cause of its problems, it will continue to send its young, poorer men and women to fight and die in other countries.
