You can't stop it .Take it from me my daughter did it untill she was 11 her teeth are fine .Your grandaughter will be fine if people don't make an issue about it . It will continue as long as she gets attention for doing it ...>.You could try and distract her by offering a drink or doing an activity just don't pay attention to the sucking ,,

This may sound cruel, but here goes: The next time you have a family gathering, pick her up and stand her on a table or chair.Announce to everybody that she is going to show them the proper way to suck a thumb. The embarrassment of being center stage doing something that she has been told is wrong may be the trigger to get her to quit.If you catch her doing it again, tell her you're gonna call everybody and tell them to come over for another lesson. You might also give her an alternative to her thumb, such as a sugar free lolipop or a pop ice.
P.S. Do not put anything hot or nasty on her thumb, if she rubs her eyes you'll have a real problem.

Please don't listen to Hawt Dawg or whatever his name is. Humiliation is never a way to teach a child anything, but you probably already know that. Most level headed people do.
I would suggest leaving it up to her parents. If they are ok with it, then just leave it alone. Personally I would just let her outgrow it. The baby teeth will fall out anyways, and most kids outgrow it before the adult teeth grow in. What's the worst that could happen anyways, she may need braces. Not the end of the world. God Bless

I suspect that the sucking-the-thumb situation should be left to the child's parent(s).

thats not easy, you can try putting something on the thumb to prevent her from doing it, or you can use a cone if you really wanna take some dramatic option. or just wait and get her braces.

i think she must be nervous. perhaps because his/her parents are away and u look after them. you must do something to make the living place calmer. or u can visit a psychologist or psychiatrist and tell them about the problem. go to the sites below for more information:

Let her parents deal with it. MYOB. You may not like it, but the alternative is worse.
