In the religious Q/A section (not on earth)? Do you have a goal?

Some of you want to mock us.

Some of you want to bring us to "reality".

Some of you seem unsure, and want some answers yourselves.

I've answered your questions and played along with your what-if's, so now answer mine.

What if you died tomorrow and found out that God was the reality?
How would you feel if you saw him face to face, and realized that you not only mocked him or just didn't believe in him, but you helped to turn some other believers away?

If this could be your reality-do you really want to not only have no faith of your own, but influence others to do the same?

sigh....please answer my question instead of asking one of your own.

Atheists, why are you here in the religious Q/A section (not on earth)? Do you have a goal?
Yes, to be enlightened about various religions, see different points of view, and try to dispel some misconceptions about atheists.

What if you died tomorrow and found out that God was the reality?
The Judeo-Christian God? I wouldn't worry, because I don't want to spend eternity with him. In all honesty, I question his morals. I'd take my chances with Satan.

How would you feel if you saw him face to face, and realized that you not only mocked him or just didn't believe in him, but you helped to turn some other believers away?
Again, I wouldn't worry about it. Hell doesn't sound that bad, and Heaven doesn't sound that good.

If this could be your reality-do you really want to not only have no faith of your own, but influence others to do the same?
I don't see anything wrong with it.

Because they are questions about religion and spirituality.. You just asked a question about atheists.. You can't have a double standard..

You used the common question.. I will speak clearly to you. In hope you will understand..
What if you died tomorrow and found out that your God wasn't the reality? What about all the people you mocked?, and all the hurtful things you did and said in the name of a religion that was false? All the things in life you missed out on because of the influence of religion. All the people you refused to know because they did not believe what you believed. The intolerance, the prejudice, the judgment you gave to others because of what you thought the truth was..

I'm sorry.. But if you put that in one hand, and being wrong in the other.. I would rather be wrong. At least i tried to be a good person to others and my family. If that isn't good enough for your god, i will gladly go to "Hell" with my chin held high...Knowing that i have more tolerance and compassion then your god does.

Yes, absolutely. If such a creature existed, and allowed all the suffering I see in the world today, it would not deserve to be worshipped. I would rather be punished for all eternity than kneel before an allegedly supreme being who is supposed to be all-powerful and yet does not lift a finger to stop the countless atrocities that happen year after year.
And don't give me the old "There's a larger plan that we can't see" line. Malarkey! I don't need to know the whole plan to know that any plan that involves allowing little kids to be starved and raped and murdered is a STUPID PLAN! It's a plan that screams out, "Go back to the drawing board!"

But, don't get me wrong - I'm not saying your god should be blamed for all the ills of the world. We are responsible for all our crimes, big and small. There is no devil who made us do it, and no divinity who could have prevented us. We choose, and we have only this one life to get those choices right or wrong. And that is the horrifying responsibility that most people cannot face.

I'll play along. If he was the god for one particular religion, like christianity, I would ask him how he could live with himself, and chide him on his complete lack of ethics. In particular, I would ask him how he could justify good, incredible people of another faith going to hell, while some awful christians (not saying all christians are awful, just some) would simply go to heaven by the virtue of their beliefs. I would then ask him to leave all humanity alone for all time as we would me much better off in a world that puts more importance on what you do vs. what you say.

If he was a universal god without any particular religion getting it right, then I would ask him why every organized religion is so messed up. Then I believe he would thank me for trying to turn people away from the lies of organized religion, and then maybe we would cry together about how his name can be used to promote stupidity, close-mindedness, and intolerance -note that some people can be very kind and generous and can still exhibit these traits....

You can't make yourself believe in something that you don't believe in. I find it strange that people always say shouldn't you err on the safe side and just have faith, could you just not believe in God because I told you not to? I would just be lying to myself if I just woke up and said ok I am going to believe. If something I say makes someone not have faith in God, then chances are they didn't really have faith in the first place.
As for why I am in the religious section, most reasonably intelligent people are interested in many things. I also find Greek mythology, psychology, literature, and about a million other subjects interesting. I don't try to convince anyone to believe what I do, but there is nothing wrong with a healthy discussion and what if questions, they get people thinking and their minds working. That is why they use debate in high schools while teaching, because it is a healthy way of learning.

I'm here to torture you by making you think about your preconceptions, and laugh at you just like I would otherwise normal adults who really believed in Santa.

In answer to your question, if I die tomorrow and find that your god is real, I'm screwed. I wouldn't feel bad about what I've done, because it's his fault for not making himself known to me. It'd suck though.

But this is an absurd hypothetical.

I could just as easily die tomorrow and find it was freethinkers he wanted all along and he made up all the Bible crap and religion just as a means of weeding out the weak minded.

If that's the case, how will you react when he flushes you down the divine toilet for being a faith zombie that he despises? Do you really want to drag people down the crapper with you like that?

This is an open forum and anyone can answer any question they want. Are you afraid of atheists coming in here and questioning you?

If the believer turned away from his or her belief then his or her belief was not strong enough and the person did not have faith in it.

If there really is a god and if I am to meet this god after I die then I am going to ask this god why couldn't he or she appear and stop all the things going on in this world. If that god is real then why is the god allowing all the bad things in the world and waiting for us to die to reward or punish us. Don't tell me that this is a test and all that nonsence. What are you going to do if after you die you meet this god and god tells you you were wrong to have judged people and questioned people about their beliefs? What if the god you meet is not the god you expected to meet?

The thing that bugs me the most about these questions is that people assume God is a MAN. What makes you think of God as a human?

I'm not worried about meeting any God, because I live a decent life and treat the people in my life with respect. I also try to do nice things for no reason. If I do something bad, I do something nice to try to make up for it. I feel content knowing that I'm OK.

For the record, I'm not an Atheist, Pagan, Satanist, Christian or Agnostic. Those labels are below what I believe and they limit the spirit of mankind.

If I died and found out there was a God, I'd just say "Well, there's my proof."

No one can "turn a believer away" except the believer. If you don't have faith, you don't have faith. Whatever happened to that "free-will"? God gave people the ability to examine the evidence for themselves. The only evidence we can give is scientific fact. Are you trying to say we shouldn't spread scientific facts? Sorry if science is getting in the way of religion. Unfortunately, we can't make it go away.

Blah, blah, blah. Please use your search box. This question gets asked 50 times a day (or so it seems)

The answer is the same. This is NOT Yahoo Christianity....and even if it was, we would still be allowed to ask questions and answer them.

The answer is, curiousity, at least for me. If I found out god is real, I would ask him why he gave me a brain then expected me to not use it. Everyone out there is free to believe whatever they want. Why are YOU here? Trying to convert people? What if YOU'RE wrong? And you send all kinds of people to hell.

Ugh. If you want a place where nobody will disagree with you, try somewhere else.

*edit*
Sorry if I sound harsh, just sick of having my beliefs (or lack thereof) crapped on again. As I'm sure you are too.
