You can buy certain dog bones that help with tartar buildup. Or if your really serious about it have the Vet clean his teeth..

If he is really submissive, then he might let you brush his teeth with a tarter-control toothpaste. I have seen it done, but it was with a dog smaller than a lab. On the other hand, one of my labs will let me suture a cut without anesthetic!

If your doggy won't cooperate, then you can try giving him a few milk bones per day. They claim to clean teeth. There are other chew-treats that claim to do a better job. Ask at a big pet supply place like PetCo.

Last resort is to have his Vet do it under anesthetic. Most people wait until the dog needs anesthesia for something else, then they have a teeth cleaning done as well.

The Vet can remove the tartar. I had a friend, who brushed her dogs teeth with a tooth brush.

some pet stores sell doggy toothbrushes and toothpaste that are specially formulated for dogs and come in tasty flavors like meat or chicken.
also, feeding your dog hard food (kibble-type food, as opposed to canned food) helps clean your dog's teeth better because as they chew on the solid food, it chips away tartar and plaque.
There are also hard bones and toys you can buy for your dog to chew on to get rid of the tartar.
If it's really bad and doesn't clear up very easily, consult your veterinarian and he/she can surgically clean your dog's teeth.

Believe it or not you can take your dog to the dog dentist or vet. But if you don't got that kind of money; there are Dog toothbrushes and toothpaste that help with that and you can get that at wal mart or petco or any petstore i should think.

I would bring him to a groom shop that will brush thier teeth. Or just go to walmart and do it your self.
