Statistics say that the most spoken is Mandarin Chinese. It has 1,051,000,000 speakers mainly in China, Taiwan and Malaysia.
English would be second with only 510,000,000 speakers, mainly in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.
But I am not sure whether these statistics refer only to the number of people who speak English as their native tongue, or they count everybody who can speak English.
