Dear Chriztina: Life is a series of steps or stages. As young adults we feel that it is weak for us to depend upon a God we no longer remember or feel connected to. We take pride in making reasonable decisions that we also look upon as reliable. Things seem to work . . .but it takes more years of living to discover that each decision, in time, finally brought us another problem to solve. If you haven't lived through several decades or more, you aren't able to see the pattern of decision making and its results. Since life requires one decision after another, it takes time to begin to see the pattern form. It takes a critical eye.
This is how it works: We make a decision and are pleased with it. It solves the problem, or enables the course we are upon to improve. We are pleased. For some time, we feel that our reasoning and logic is sound - results prove that is so. Suddenly, down the line, we find the next problem arising, but do not connect it to the decision we made back some time ago. The new problem to be solved, or difficulty, seems to us to be a separate thing from past decisions - something quite on its own. But, you see, decisions are roads. Which road to take? Do I turn right, or turn left, or go straight ahead? You don't want the Cheshire Cat to point the direction, do you? Well, the human mind is a bit confused - like the Cheshire Cat - who was seldom "all together!" This is a complex world and things unexpected constantly arise. Also this world is a school for lessons in living. You are meant to be learning about life, about your Self, and about what you truly need.
Life becomes a series (as we move along) of choices about the next road to go down. What you are suppose to learn is that you prefer, most of all, the peace, unlimited-ness and lack of opposition, as well as the support of the One Mind (the Kingdom - the Sonship- your One-ness) that is your heritage as a Child of God.
In physical life you are without your Father. So He gave to you the Holy Spirit who resides in your Mind, and Jesus as a Teacher for you.
As you become more and more aware of the "games" earth plays with God's Children, (think upon Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana) you see all the opposition and limited-ness earth can wreak in our lives. This does NOT mean you should be frightened - NO! It means to go forth in life in courage and use your mind well, but also ask for Guidance to ensure you are making the right decisions. The Holy Spirit within you is your Comforter and Guide. He and Jesus will make certain your path is clear and successful, that God's Child may know and experience the Father's steadfast devotion to you at ALL TIMES, wherever you happen to be. He offers to you the Wisdom of the Universe.
Following the advice and direction of the Holy Spirit within - ensures that you will come to learn that your own advice to yourself is not as Perfect as Theirs. That They are present to get you through this Journey as effortlessly - as possible. Their Perfection will prevent another problem from arising from the decision you made that seemed to be very good - at first - for awhile. If anything does arise to oppose you or limit you, They will show you quickly again, how easy it is to handle what arises, and continue on your way. With Their Guidance, transitions, adjustments, complexities are smoothed away for you effortlessly.
No wonder older people say, "Let God show you the way on this." They have lived long enough to have learned where their marbles best lay. Now you say, "I see older people messing things up constantly. And sometimes they are the very ones who say, 'Leave it to God.' What about that?"
The secret to that is: They haven't developed a Relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit strong enough to reap all the "goodies" that can come from it! They speak of reliance upon God, but have not worked enough at the Relationship to be provided what they hope for. Church on Sunday, Grace at the meal table, reading the Bible here and there, will not do it! You need a working relationship . . .make Them your Best Friends. Talk to them - inside your head frequently. Ask Them for Guidance and advice. But, most important - learn to hear Them answer. Until you hear Their voices in your inner Self - the Relationship I speak of does not belong to you.
By the way - you need to always use your own mind as well. The idea is to tell Them what you are thinking - go over with Them how you see it. Tell Them why you think it is a good, solid decision. Present it to Them. THEN, ask Them what They think.
It is never Their desire to create dependency - in the form of weakness.

So you are telling me that you have made a lot of good choices in your life by living it your own way? That you have always held yourself and not someone else accountable for your actions and bad choices? Lana has no concept of what it truely means to follow God and allow Him to help guide us. You think if we follow God we aren't held accountable? Seriously, are you kidding? Any Christian will tell you that we are held accountable for EVERYTHING we do and on the day of judgement we will have to answer for our actions. That's the point, left to our own accord as many here have said, when they try to live their life their own way it usually ends in disaster and they make a lot of bad decisions. Now are there people who don't follow God that live a percieved good life, well yes of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, even God will tell you that wicked men will prosper, but it doesn't change the fact that on the day of judgement we will all be held accountable for our actions.
We follow God because we learned often times the hard way what our life would be like when we try to live it for ourselves, the number of bad decisions we make and the consequences of those decisions. We don't follow God so that we aren't accountable for what we do we follow Him so we don't have to keep making the same poor mistakes we continue to make.
Understand this, at one point or another a person will choose to follow a God in their life. Wether that God is Money, themselves, a false God, etc. the list goes on. I like many choose to follow the one true God.

Mainly because there is much more satisfaction and greater benefits than following George Bush and lapdog Tony Blair. With faith in God you live longer - need I say more?
Should you come to a life threatening situation you will be most certainly not calling on a mortal.

They do that because they don't want to take responsibility or think for themselves. So if they have someone else to blame when things go wrong, then they believe they don't have be held accountable for it. If everything is going great then God must love them but if something goes wrong (cat getting sick, to borrow your example), then God is punishing them.

God has given us all our own free will. We can do as we wish. But if a person like my wants to live there life for God , one better lurn how to hear what he tells you to do. I live my life for God because I want to live in Heanen for ever and ever. I do not want to live in hell for ever and ever. I want to see Jesus , I want to see God , I want to see the angels and hear there singing. Life on earth has been very hard for me. I want to have the peace and happyness of heaven.
So yes I can think for my self. When I do I always make the wrong desision. When one does they hurt there selves and all there family.
So God has taught me to love him with all my heart and sole. The bible says that Jesus said " you are etherfor me or aginst me." There is no 1/2 way.

You make some good points.
The Christian God has us make many decisions in our lives rather than making them all for us. This is part of the process by which he develops our character (as Christians).
We are to take responsibility for our decisions (where we have some control), and depend on God for things that are beyond our control.
Cordially,
John

Actually I spent a great deal of my life making my own choices and seeing the train wreck that came from the consequences of them. It was only after coming to a good bible teaching church, and studying the bible, that I learned incredible wisdom. God's wisdom. I began to follow His ways instead of my ways. He says, commit your ways to me (God), and I will give you the desires of your heart.
That is precisely what I've done, and of course, He has fulfilled His promise. My life is full of joy, purpose, peace, fulfillment. I love learning more about the character of God and the way He would have me live. It's challenging and beautiful. Not easy, but holy, and I wish to live a pure life.
If you don't rely on God, or His word, okay. That's your choice. I don't judge you for that. I'm just grateful I found such peace in knowing, and following, Jesus Christ.

Because people that are Christians like myself believe God created them. I myself could never live without God directing my path. The reason I follow God and not my own path is because anytime I have followed my own path and directed my own path in life I've been miserable. I believe God knows what's best in my life and that is why I trust him with it, and when I do follow his path I'm happiest.

You are supposed to think and use your own reasoning by doing your research AND rely on God to guide you to the truth. God guides whom he wills and leaves astray the arrogant people.

because we don't have the ability to save ourselves, as much as we would love to think we have it. don't forget that god also granted us the gift of free will, and believing in god doesn't mean we have to give up that gift. we choose to be saved by god because we cannot save ourselves. choosing to follow god gives christians a feeling of peace, or at least it gives this christian a feeling of peace, knowing i dont have to be anybody for god to love me. relying on god means trusting that he sees the whole picture. even if something happens that really hurts us, we trust that god sees the whole picture and that something really good will come from the bad. we also ask god to speak to our hearts that we may be able to see and realize the good things in our lives - sometimes our lives become to cluttered and stressful that it blinds us.
