Just because one lineage of apes changes, doesn't mean they all do. Dogs descend from wolves, but there are still wolves.

This has a lot to do with location. In many areas primates did not need to come up with a new way of living becuase all of their needs were met. However some primates lived in areas hostile to their existance so they had to adapt. Ever so slowly a social status evolved into primates and just living was hostile. During this hostal period those who learned tools and methods of getting what they needed survived. Those who faught over ladies and territory did not live very long. Thus the smarter of the bunch survived. This continued for a few hundred thousand years and eventually humans were the result.

If your curious about this take physical and cultural anthropology at your local college. It will help explain why there are still primates.

omg-- this question is so boring, everyone keeps asking this!!!
u have Internet access, look this up instead of asking people on yahoo!!

hello--- everything on this planet, whether animal, plant life, human or microbe has evolved from something and is still continuing to evolve.
Just look at the fact that every generation of children that are born to humans, have u noticed that they get taller and taller and bigger and bigger?

The primates that are still primates today don't look anything like the ones that were here first---and they keep finding older and older specimens every time they have a new dig somewhere.
The reason that the ones that evolved into humans did so because of climate change, new microbes causing new diseases killing off some of them, and leaving the ones that survived to be stronger and immune.
those were the ones that managed to continue searching for food in new places, all over Africa and out of Africa, which also caused more changes to the primates because of the new climate and foods.
the primates that stayed behind changed also, but not as much and much more slowly.
that's why you still have primates that are primates.

Man evolved from primates. This evolution took millions of years. Beside - once there was 2 types of different people, the ones who used to fight with each other and compete. They had slightly different body structures (btw if I remember correctly, one of them was neanderthal). However, after a prolonging war, the second kind of man was exterminated. There are no more people evolving from primates for once because there is no the 'right' type of a primate, secondly - this evolution will take way too long for the scientists to study and take it into serious consideration, and finally, humans will not allow another species to evolve side by side. And I think it's not that they will not let them as in on purpose, but it just won't happen because humans are already so far ahead, and all the current technology, and experiments will significantly slow down the evolution process. I hope, no scientist will want to crusify me after such an answer.

Other primates are still here, because the ones that would have evolved would have been in a separate 'gene pool' where different traits would have been beneficial. Human-like traits would have been more useful in this different area, so the more human-like ones would have been more likely to survive and reproduce, passing on their more human-like traits to the next generation. This human-like group would have been separate without any gene transfer to the old species until they were a completely different species. (This was rather oversimplified but hopefully you get the idea.)

I actually do believe in literal Genesis which is not incompatible to the observable things I have learned.

Please don't use this argument again, it doesn't stand up at all. If I were you I would try to learn something more about evolution while holding on to your faith, so that you can see the true problems with the theory. Hope this helped a bit.

It's called mutation, bud. For the same reason some people are born with extra fingers, toes, or a lack of a brain, certain primates were born with various different mutations and carried that on to their offspring. Millions of years of evolution lead to us, human beings. That doesn't mean that all the other primates were wiped out, they just didn't evolve and stayed where they were.

Seriously, no offense to anyone, but this is the stupidest argument against evolution I've heard yet that doesn't involve the bible.

This question makes no sense. You could just as easily say, if man was created by God, why are there still primates? Just because new species come into being does not mean all the old ones have to die out.

I think man, as well as the primates that exist now, evolved from a common "ancestor" primate. We all separated into different branches. If we don't succeed in destroying our planet, in a few million years I think there will be different animals and plants here, evolved from those that exist now.

Ah...no, There are around 400 different species of primates. The few that developed into modern man no longer exist (they are your relatives).

If left to their own accord, modern primates would indeed evolve into more advanced creatures in a few million years. Unfortunately for them, homo sapiens will ensure their extinction within the next several hundred years.

We have mountains of verifiable evidence to validate the testable and falsifiable theories of evolution. We have nothing to support the idea that mankind simply crawled out of the mud one day on "God's" whim.

Hope this helps:)

I don't believe that god created anything. You people twist theories to suit your purpose just like you twist the Bible to suit your purpose. The primates from which humans evolved branched out. They moved into areas where they had to adapt to survive and thus evolved into humans. The primates that stayed back didn't evolve or learned to adapt. Evolution is all about adaptation to the surroundings and learning to cope with the situations.

Are you serious? Again?!?!?

I believe the term is diverge. Man diverged from the same evolutionary path as existing primates, thus creating a new, separate path. Other primates struck off in another direction creating other new primates.

This really is not hard.
