Wiccans, please help, I'm kinda confused. I was reading this book on wicca the other day and it kept saying "We are not storybook witches, we don't cast spells or hex people" What exactly is the point of wicca magic then, if it is not conventional "Magic".

Wicca is a religion, and the guiding tenet is "Harm none", so hexes aren't things that are generally considered acceptable.

Most (but not all) Wiccans will cast spells - for healing, protection, cleansing, or blessing, for example. But it's not like what you see in "The Craft" or "Charmed" or "Buffy", which is what I think the book was trying to point out about "storybook witches".

But the primary focus of Wicca is the spirituality, not the spells. It's a religion, a way of connecting with the Divine, a path of honoring the God and Goddess.

It's a belief system that can have interactive properties. A "spell" is much like a prayer, but the ritual is unique. Of course, there is always the idea that one could, if one was really wanting to, cast a spell on a person or object. There are rituals for many things in Wicca, but not really like the flying broomsticks kind.

There are alot of books out there, and not all of them are accurate and factual. Anyone can write a book, you can even self-publish. Read *lots* of books, essays, blogs and anything else you can get your hands on. Thats the only way to sift through the BS.

The only stereotype about Pagans that is actually true is that we've always got our collective nose stuck in a book. LOL
