I know there are thousands of dogs a month being put to sleep because of overpopulation. I know it is very physically demanding for my dog and I dont what her to have puppies. I keep telling my mom of all the bad things that could have to my dog if she breeds them. I love my dog so much and I would hate if anything happened to her. Can you give me more reasons why my mom shouldnt breed her? I need some more counter-arguments. Thanks for your time.

Hmmm.... Because of the obvious reasons...

1) Breeding is *never* for money. Money can *not* be made on a litter that is "produced" and raised properly.

2) Pre-pregnancy vet check and tests: $70-$100 dollars.

3) Mid-pregnancy vet check and Xrays and tests (to be sure puppies are small enough to fit through her pelvis, thus avoiding the need for a C-section): $200 or more.

4) Possible C-section: Anywhere from $500-$2,000, depending on level of care, number of puppies, etc, and whether or not it was foreseen or called in as an emergency...

5) Extra care and feeding of female after the birth of the puppies, including formula for puppies who are behind or puppies who have been orphaned during birth: $300 and up..

6) Two or more vet visits for puppies *before* they go to their new homes: Depending on the size of the litter, the number of tests run, and the complications encountered, about $50-100 a puppy.

7) Time spent on pacing, chewing your bottom lip, and staring at your female wondering if she's going to live through the impending labor: Two weeks or more.

8) Time spent cleaning, scrubbing, studying medical documents, pedigrees, researching genetic issues and new tests, and generally making sure you're doing the *right thing*: Endless.

9) Time spent writing up legal documents and contracts to be sure that your puppies never end up in a bad situation, an abusive home, or an animal shelter: Three weeks, each litter... at least.

10) Time spent doubting your sanity: *Every* time you have to stay up and "sleep" on the couch to make sure the puppies and mom make it just *one more night*, even though you've been up for two weeks straight waiting for labor to begin, and you can't even remember your own name...

11) Money spent each year keeping up with past litters of puppies, making sure people are following through with your contracts and keeping your puppies healthy and safe... (Including Bday cards, emails, phone calls, and Christmas presents): Oh, at least $200-$300, and it goes up every year!

12) Profit made after one small litter of puppies, after all of the deductions are made for vet bills, equipment, registrations and tests, food, formula, and everything else... Negative. Nil. Nothing. Work your butt off for a half a year for nothing but the joy of it, and see if it's still worth it to do it *one more time*.

13) Loss of part or of an entire litter because of one small oversight... Happens to the best people, especially in the beginning.

14) Loss of your female to one of the *numerous* complications encountered by dogs during pregnancy and labor... Look it up!

15) Eventual loss of your female to pyometra or cancer because she was never spayed... Very common in unspayed females.

16) The middle of the night phone calls from the people who just took your puppy home and found out he has a debilitating or fatal genetic disorder that you failed to test for... Now you owe them a puppy and a darned good explanation!

17) The ridicule, insults, and general outcasting of "dog-breeders" by people who think you are "lazy" and "irresponsible".

18) And last, but not least, the loss of just about every friend you've ever had because they can't understand why you're so darned attached to your dogs! *Most* of the breeders I know are divorced...

Need more? ;)

If you don't get your dog spayed, she could end up with pyrometria. This is where the uterus gets infected and fills with puss. It will kill your dog if not treated very quickly and she will end up being spayed at that point. There's also cancer of the uterus (They can get all the same diseases we get) so the less hormones in her body, the better. Sometimes breeding changes their personalities, but not very often. Plus, the fact of overpopulation. Also consider, these puppies may not sell & you'll be stuck with them, do you have room? The puppies can also get the parvo virus from the ground at your home (it lives in the ground for 15 yrs) it actually happened to my parents & 8 puppies all got it, it was a $2000.00 vet bill. You can give her any of these.

*If she decides to breed the dog, another will die from the pound.
*The pups may not go to a good home.
*Some dogs are stolen to be eaten, and to do so more freely sometimes transported to other countries.
*Many dogs are stolen or picked up from shelters (although shelters really try to weed out these folks) to use them in the labs for testing - it's horrible.
*Will your mom be responsible for the upkeep of puppies until they're 8weeks old? thats a lot of work! and it takes a lot of time!
*Also, why does she want this done? To fulfill the dogs need or her own need? If the reasons behind it are the wrong ones, then it shouldn't be done.
*Finally, if she goes with you to the pound, she's likely to fall in love w/ one of them there, especially knowing that it might die the next day or so. Thats probably the best method.

Hows that?

You should tell your mom that you really don't want her to do this i'm sure she'll listen to you. Also look online for other reasons to not breed dogs.

sounds like your mom is only thinking of money and not respecting your wishes and obviously is not considering the health of the dog. Sounds like she is making as selfish decision.

WHAT KIND OF DOG?? EVERYONE SHOULD SAY THE BREED ( OR MIX) THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. IT MATTERS!
I LOST A YORKIE B/C SHE WAS BRED. CALCIUM SHOCK.
AND THEIR BODY'S CHANGE AFTER BREEDING (all breeds) and so do their attitudes.
