I live in an area where there are a lot of coyotes also. They are generally timid, and I have never heard of a coyote trying to attack a human or an animal with a human. However, they will get a small animal if it is alone. They come down the mountain from my house and get people's cats all the time. I wouldn't leave a puppy outside alone at night just in case. My mom and dad live near me, and have small dogs that live outside all the time. They have never bothered those dogs, either.

Just don't leave your dog outside alone at night. A Coyote will not attack a human unless it is ill with rabies etc, but any hungry Coyote will kill and eat creatures smaller than them such as dogs and cats. However this is rare and living in the area that I do with lots of wolves and coyotes I can assure you it is very rare for them to come near a human dwelling and attack even small dogs... I know a breeder who lives in the bush near where I live and there is a pack of red wolves and many coyotes in the area and not one of his Daschunds or Shih-tsu's have ever been bothered by them and they have free range day and night.... If you are really concerned just don't leave your dog alone outside at night and you will never have a problem.

You should be safe. There's very little chance coyotes will attack you unless you're very young. But your puppy has 'Yote Brand Snack Food written all over her. Since she'll never be a big dog, she'll always be at risk. She's more at risk in the evenings, but I've seen coyotes come out of the woods on bright clear afternoons to try to catch chickens.

They wont attack you. It may seem a little weird, but if you shine a flashlight on your puppy at night, usually coyotes will get the idea, if you really dont feel safe about it, take your dog out right before sunset. When they are puppies they will get used to going either in the same spot or at the same time everyday.

Coyotes will not attack adult humans, but yes they can attack your small dog. They usually don't mess with big dogs either, since they are not seen as food like little dogs and cats. Never let your dog out alone after dark, even if it is in your own backyard. Coyotes have been known to jump fences and walls as high as 6 feet to get at dogs in their yard. Always go out with your dog, and when walking..always keep him on leash so he does not wander.

Whenever you are out in bush area, be sure to take a light with you, and make noise. Coyotes don't usually attack people, unless they are sick or starving (both extreme cases). But there are other animals that may try to take advantage of your pup - cougars, bobcats, lynx, fox, eagles, etc. Since she is small, never leave her alone or off leash.

I live in a area with coyotes and never once experienced any coyotes attacking any of my animals I have labs and 1 toy poodle and she goes out alone at night but never wanders to far away from the house ..But I always leave the yard light on and watch her from the door and if she seems to go towards the woods I holler at her to come back..But just keep a good eye on your dog if she is out at night with you never let it run alone ..Dog breeder and trainer of labs for 13 years..

"ATTACK"??? Well,that's highly UN-likely.
But would they snatch & kill & EAT such a tiny morsel?? OF COURSE!!! Thousands of cats & small dogs are taken by coyotes every year!
They can get over a SIX FOOT FENCE easily! WILL take a small animal right off your porch!
You should invite some hunters to THIN the coyote population for you! They'd be happy to oblige!

Coyotes are afraid of humans - they do attack creatures like prairie-dogs, cats, rats, rabbits etc. and they may attack any dogs small enough to be easy prey, but that is usually only when they are very hungry (starving). Usually dogs will scare them off if they are the same size as the coyote or larger.
