Cop has the legal right and if you fail to or are unable to produce proof of ID, he can detain you until your ID is verified. Yes even for a traffic infraction. (cksq)

Here again is a question where the answer depends on the state you live in. In Minnesota courts recently have been tossing out cases where the passenger was I.D.'d for no reason. The officer must articulate why he/she had reason to identify passengers in a vehicle. Now if the driver is canceled, canceled amicable to public safety, suspended, revoked, under the influence or is detained for other purposes, passengers can be identified. One reason is to allow another individual, who has a valid license, to take the vehicle preventing a tow. Really we know it's because generally **** bags hang out with other **** bags. So, there you go.

This has occurred to me earlier. My difficulty which i stumbled on out after a lengthy lengthy particularly lengthy communicate with the officer became this. There were childrens interior the section slipping into this new subdivision the position homes were being equipped yet no one lived yet. They were parking interior the darkish and eating and doing drugs and different "stuff" i became out with my acquaintances and we desirous to seem on the hot subdivision. after I grew to develop into into the subdivision a vehicle grew to develop into in in the back of me so i became blocked from turning round. I drove to the top of the line and there have been 10 or so cop automobiles who on the prompt grew to develop into on their lights. the reason he took each and every man or woman's id became to run Warrant checks. once you've a warrant out and they run your license you'd be stumbled on via license variety or via call. He became only making particular none people had a record or a warrant earlier he enable us flow. It became all a huge false impression that we chortle about now.

it's common for them to ask for your ID because it's the law that everyone carrys ID. They figure if you don't have an ID then you might be a wanted fugitive and since they don't want to risk letting a wanted fugitive go and then he goes off and does some harrainous crime they usually check everyones ID to make sure your not giving them a fake name

It is routine for them to ID everyone involved so they can pull your name to see if you have any outstanding warrants or anything to that effect. It's their way of killing two birds with one stone since they already have someone pulled over, they may as well check everyone's name

I ID everyone after dark. And maybe they wanted to know if you were of age to be drinking, out after curfew, etc. The most deadliest times for officers are between the hours of 8pm - 4pm, we just want to know who we are dealing with most of the times.

it's called (fishing) as in fishing for a arrest, if you were a fugitive or had some warrants ,just asking for your id would give him reason to search the car or pat you down for drugs or weapons, hoping it would be more than just a traffic stop.

He's allowed to ask for everyone's ID in the vehicle to be able to identify them. He may have asked for your ID to run your name for warrants.
