Well, they say there is no such thing as a stupid question only stupid answers, but if that's the case, what do stupid people do? Do they get smart right before they ask their question?

Not really, but some people could benefit by thinking before they ask a question...especially the stupid questions.

Most questions can be answered without asking orally...by thinking critically, using available resources (Internet, Library, Popular Science : ), etc.

Questioning to gain knowledge, when no other sources are available, is the only way to learn...and is one of the greatest gifts each of us has. My favorite thing is researching answers after I ask a question to see other points of view, gain new insights, and form my own opinion on the matter. I love the 'Intarwebs'.

Nope not at all. Your asking a question that you don't know to gain knowledge so you won't be STUPID...No such thing as a stupid question.

any question is dumb or stupid if you think of it whay do you ask? to find the answer! so, if you did not ask questions from the the begining as a baby to now would you be smart or a dunny?

then there are just bored dumb silly question that one floats out there. to see how creative people can be.

I like to se questions like that time to time, it breaks up boring time and gives me a chance to think up a creative answer for other to read and get a laugh out of. just like I like to read other peoples creative answers if it is ment as a silly question I see no harm in that.

Yes.

They usually come from people asking about things they have no idea what they are talking about like, "What kind of cereal should I use in the serial port?"

It's nonsense.

It had valid intent - but was still a stupid question...

I was told once that the only stupid question is the one that's already been answered, and I agree with it.

Well, yes and no. I would say those questions that gain knowledge are not. I would say those question that are aimed at being rude and getting a rise out of the others are.
