As an agnostic friend put it, "I would rather spend an eternity in Hell than worship a being that would create such a place."
That being said, I do follow God. Just not the jealous, angry, abusive parent one.

I don't know if it's THAT SIMPLE.
I CAN tell you that the Devil is everywhere and he influences ALL of us, some more than others. He influences the way people feel and the things they think. He influences our culture and even our politicians. He decieves people into thinking there is not God. He hardens people so that they refuse to believe out of sorry or anger. . . . . just try to live your lofe FOR God alone, not for yourself. Rise above the inluence and try to set a good example. Let your light shine like a beacon to the weary hearts. Some will see your light and they will come to you. Try to help them in the right direction toward the Lord.
Oh the FIRST answer is pretty good and reminds me of a point I like to make when I get the chance. The reason we have murderers, shoplifters, rapists. The reason our culture worships "bling bling", fancy cars, sex, money, power, and violence. The reason there is war in the world, why the terrorists attacked us AND why WE STRUCK THEM BACK .. . . .is EXTREMELY SIMPLE: Free will + the devil's influence = the world we live in. It's just that simple.
God Bless You, my friend.

Romans 1:25 (NLT)
Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies. So they worshiped the things God made but not the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever. Amen.

My logic and self being all tell me that it is not true. How can I possibly believe something that with all my heart know is a fallacy and the greatest cultural creation of mankind?
Even if it was true, I could never accept the christian god.

Because they are their own God. They cannot allow themselves to believe in heaven because then they would have to admit their sins. You cannot understand them because this earth is not your home and you are the child of the righteousness and made righteous because of JESUS. They are lost people.

God is imaginary. Why would you want to follow an imaginary being to an imaginary place? Click on my name for links to more info.

Because fundamentalists whit their strict rules, and so many conditions make it impossible for anyone to go to heaven. Besides, if they don't believe in god, they don't believe in heaven either, moron.

I'm assuming by 'follow' you really mean 'believe in'. If that is the case, then your second question presumes the first is true.
Many believe it is not, so the second question is invalid.

That's the point. Instead of being here, online, we should get our bitt on the street and start spreading the word!
