Between the Nikon D50 and the Canon 350D, the Canon is the better camera. It has more features, more megapixels, and in extreme low light situations it provides better image quality. On the flip side, the Nikon has a better build quality. The Canon wins hands down however - that's why it costs $150 more.
Actually, the D50 isn't even the direct competitor of the 350D. Recently, the Nikon D70s has come down in price to match the Canon 350D, and between THOSE two models, I'd give the edge to Nikon. (The Nikon D70s is being replaced by the D80, which will cost $1000.)
You can get wonderful lenses for both brands, so there's no real difference there.

Its basically the Ford vs Chevy debate for cameras. I personally like Canons, I had a Canon for my first digital and liked the menu so when it was stolen and I decided to get a DSLR I went w/ the Canon Rebel XT because of the menu similarities. Nikon is a great rig too, in fact Practical Photography (UK mag) had a traverl shoot out between the RebXT (350D) and the D50 and the Nikon came out on top because of price and a few other things (my opinion is the Canon, but lets hear it for brand loyalty). I dont know if you mean "kit" or "kid" but kit would come w/ a lens same as the Reb XT kit w/ a 18-55mm lens (not a bad lens, but not that great either)

Up to you tho, so which do you choose, Ford, Chevy or Dodge (dont forget Oylmpus or Pentax, but not Konica/Minolta, they went out of biz)

coming to the battle of the 2 giants, both haf their own good and bad points. for me it is juz the matter of getting used to the camera and being able to familiarize yourself to your camera despite the brands. since im more familiar with nikon, i stick to nikon. some ppl switch frm one brand to another because they think that the other is better while others stay because they're used to the system.

what is d50 kid? i've never heard of it.

both d50 and 350d are good to use if youre talking about the entry level of dslr. try out both camera in the store and see how you feel about handling them.

D50 is a Nikon. Canon bodies are 1D, 5D, 10D, 20D, and 30D. As far as which is better, Canon is hands down. Sunday's coming up, just look and see how many Canon's you see on the sidelines and in the end zone. Plus I own a 20D and previously owned an A1.

I had a Nikon for some time! It was awesome. That was a year ago. I was told that the Nikons had very good lenses.

You can see some of my photos here:

Although the earliest photos were taken with a 'film' camera and an old HP and the newest were taken with a Panosonic Lumix. Most were taken with the Nikon.

CANON without no doubt.
Most Professionals use Canon Products.
If you want to buy an SLR camera, buy Canon EOS 30D or Canon EOS 350D (RebelXT)
