I have a Pom/Min.Eskimo. I am worrid because she was vomiting tonight. I never had a pet before so I don't know how serious it may be. She was vomiting her puppy food and then some yellow slimy liquid. She also just wants to lay down, we call her name and she doesn't want to be bothered. I don't know what to do.

Check her gums immediately... if they are not pink/red there might be a big problem... press on her gums, if they turn white and QUICKLY turn pink again you should keep an eye on her and if she gets worse call an animal hosptial... if you press on her gums and they are too pale to turn white or if they take more than a few seconds to change back she needs to see a vet ASAP... that means tonight... also check her temperature rectally... if it is under 99 or over 106 that means got to the vet... if it is between 103-106 she is probably sick but it's impossible to say without seeing her how bad it is...101-102 is pretty normal.

I don't want to scare you, if her gums are good color and she doesn't continually throw up you should be ok till morning. Also, please update the information and let me know how old she is... I'm not a vet but I'm in training to be one...

Since we don't know how old she is, how long you've had her, if this is a new food for her, if she might have ingested a non-food item, if she had shots and when...

For right now, I'd give her a bowl of ice with a little water in it, in case she wants to drink the ice will keep her thirst quenched but she won't be able to 'tank up' on water.

Do check her gums for refill time, as was suggested,. They should be pink, and when you press on them with a finger, they'll turn white and should return to pink within 2 seconds. (one-one-thousand, two-one thousand)

If you have a rectal thermometer (do not use a regular thermometer!) and are comfortable doing so, take her temperature. Normal for dogs is 100-102 degrees F and
below is site w/ instructions on how to do this.

The lethargy is a concern, on top of the vomiting. Call the nearest vet ER with the information you gave us, as well as the answers to the questions I posed at the beginning of my answer. and her temperature (if you can take it). They can tell you if there's anything you should be doing at home, or if this is an ER visit. Most animal ERs won't have you come in if it isn't necessary, especially since they need to be available for life-threatening issues.

Best wishes, I hope she's better asap!

If she seem lethargic, (and it sounds like she may be) you may want to contact a vet after hours or go to a local emergency animal clinic. She might have gotten hold of something toxic or poisonous. Puppies and kittens are alot like two year old children...they explore the world one way, by putting everything into their mouths. Is there anything in your house or backyard, garage or carport that she might have gotten into today? Think carefully because it could help the vet determine the best course of treatment.

Cats vomit fairly routinely with hairballs and such, but what you're describing sounds like something different. Puppies certainly can have tummy trouble like any of us, but I don't think it's as commonplace for them as for kitties.

Finally, has your puppy had all it's shots? The other possibility you want to have the vet eliminate is something like parvo. Even if it's something simple, at least the vet could give your pet something to make her feel better and give you some peace of mind.

When in doubt - go to the professionals! I've never regretted it....

Good luck! Hope she feels better SOON.

How old is she? Did she eat anything funky? Or does she just have a tummy ache? Dogs do puke at times, and they do throw up yellow slimy liquid...from coughing so deep. I have sheepdogs and they are famous for drinking too much water and throwing up. How long has it been going on? How many times did she vomit? Are her eyes clear?

It maybe because of the food you are giving it. It may not like it. Try dry if it isn't or try dry if it is wet. Also it maybe just getting used to the environment. When the puppies are taken aways from the mother and taken off of the milk they can get sick. Just give it a day or so and if nothing happens definitely take it to the vet because nothing i listed is wrong. It maybe sick form eating something wrong. BEST WISHES

it may pass in a few days.
pay attention to:

what is she throwing up (food vs. vile <-spelling?)
is she going to the bathroom normally, both pee and poo?
pay attention to the color of the poo and the texture.
how is her appetite?
is she drinking her water?
How is her behavior, lethargic?
Could she have been bitten by something?
Does she seem to be hurting anywhere, sensitive anywhere?
Finally, look around the house to see what the dog may have gotten into - this could be crucial.

If the dog doesn't throw up tomorrow but is eating ok and energy is back to normal, i wouldn't worry, but I would still check the house to prevent it from happening again.

Do not give anymore food. If you have honey give her some this will perk her up fast, and some Pepito bismal. This will help her tummy. If she does not respond after the honey water take her to a vet. Could be parvo.

You can try to call a vet or animal hospital. Or just let her rest in her crate (if she has one) She may just have a tummy ache. Our Lab is 10 months old and she still has a sensative tummy sometimes.
