Do you like it? We're looking into options for our 9 year old as he ventures further & further from home alone. Any other ides that won't cost an arm & a leg?! Not interested in traditional cell phones where he can talk it up.

I bought one for my son and it was horrible. We exchanged it for a regular cell phone. The firefly is hard to operate, hard to program,it's not very tough,it's hard to read, and was not kid friendly at all in my opinion. My son is also 9 years old.He uses the normal cell phone now and we have never had a problem with him talking to much.lol. I think at 9 years they aren't as bad about calling buddies yet.

The Firefly cell phone is the best because they can only call 4 different people. (probably mom, dad, aunt, guardian) and it should be pretty cheap. At walmart, sometimes they have them for free after a rebate and a 2 year agreement.

Firefly phones are a great idea for kids. You can control their calling because you have to pre-program the numbers you allow them to call into the phone. For more info check out www.cingular.com

ummm...just get him a real cell phone. He will get made fun of.

Also, he deserves to have a social life. Let him communicate with his friends over the phone. Just remember to get a good monthly plan for the phone so it's not too expensive.

Well, if you don't want him to "talk it up" just get him a prepaid cell. That way you regulate the amount of calls he can make. If he uses up his phone card on calling friends, take away the phone.

my younger sister has one that my parents got for her (she's 11) and they think it's one of the better investments they've made for her. she is in all these baskeball programs and other sports things and the times to pick her up are always changing so it's nice to be able to keep in touch with her regarding where she is and who she's with. i highly reccommend it as a starter phone.

depending in what area you are in why not try cricket? its less expensive and if he talks it up it dont cost you a dime cause its unlimited? try www.cricket.com and check to see if its available in your area if not i suggest the cingular go phone pay as you go and its not a bad idea good luck though.

Why would a 9 year old be able to venture further and further from home?
