You are thinking in modern terms.
When the laws were written, the ocean was not polluted.
Fish were very clean, not filled with mercury like today.
Also, pigs and shellfish were the garbage disposals of the land and sea.
Today we farm raise pigs so they are not as filthy. However, given the choice a pig will eat anything and roll in it's fecal matter!

Pork, or pigs in general are considered dirty because of their habits. They eat dirt (it appears that way with them rooting in mud with thier snouts). It is the same for snails, shell fish and other things that crawl in the ground. A fish doesn't eat from the earth and is there fore considered clean.

The Leviticus dietary laws were given to the Jewish people for their own health benefits. Pork meat is a very toxic meat tht goes bad very quickly when not refrigerated. I believe even salting pork is not 100% safe. Also, it has a high transmittance of things such as tapeworm if not cooked properly. It's really not good for anyone as it is high in fat and cholesterol. The same thing goes for shellfish. If your cholesterol is found to be high, the doctor will ask you not to eat shellfish. Also, shellfish are like filters in the bottom of the ocean and can also be very toxic if not stored/refrigerated properly.
I eat both pork and shellfish from time to time, but they are not the healthiest of choices. During Biblical times they did not have the medical advances so the Jews followed these dietary laws for their own benefit. If you chose to follow them today, you would also be helping your health.

yeah, the actual basis is just because G-d said not to do it, probably to make the jews different and for no other reason.
pigs just fit the profile, its not specific to pigs, G-d gave two rules dealing with which land animals being kosher and it is completely dependent on split hooves and chewing cud
also, not all fish are kosher

If you knew anything at all about animals, you'd know that no animal in the wild is filthy. Only animals kept in unnatural conditions in technological countries are, due to being penned up in areas much to small for them as well as being fed an unnatural diet. You'd also know, if you knew the first thing about animals, that man is the dirtiest animal on the planet, in respects other that physical also. The reason for the prohibition on eating pork was not that it was "unclean" but that it caused deaths by trichinosis, a worm infestation that kills the host animal very rapidly once it infects a host.
Read more and learn more. You're question, while a good one, shows a great lack of knowledge.

Jewish law forbad eating animals which were labeled by God as unclean.
Isaac Asimov pointed out many years ago that the animals labeled unclean often contained harmful parasites and diseases which would not be properly cooked when using camel dung...
An example is pork which often contains trichinosis, a parasite which does not kill but greatly weakens those who contract it. Even today, it is necessary to completely cook pork or you may get that parasite in your system.
So, unclean did not mean covered with mud, it meant containing things which would make the Jewish people very sick.

You can not eat these things because they were the beliefs of a group of peoples thousands of years ago. Said people wrote down their beliefs and decided that since they enjoyed them so much, you should also enjoy them.
If you want to go out and have babyback pork ribs with a side of sizzling garlic shrimp and a sauteed strip of smoked atlantic salmon, by all means, spend the money and enjoy it.

Pigs are smart. Pigs only roll in the mud to keep themselves cool. It protects them. Fish are nasty. They eat their own poo and other fishes poo too. Maybe they aren't to eat pigs because pigs are too smart and have the longest 0rgasms. So the next time you call someone a pig, think about what you are really saying.

I think that is more about pigs eating trash and their own. The bible also rules out what crawls on the oceanfloor, which would include shrimp, crab and lobster. Thank god I'm Atheist. LOL

Actually we cannot eat Pigs (or same fish and all shellfish) because G-d said not too. Nothing to do with cleanliness.
