I know this doesn't answer your question, but this is what I have been taught. Shaved hair just apperears to grow in darker because it is bluntly cut off leaving a flat edge, this makes the end of a cut hair wider (so it looks more thick) than a natrual hair which has a gradual taper at the end.
Do you really need to do a study to prove this?
And , no, I will not shave my arm hair for you, sorry.
But I do hope you get some volunteers.

I shave my arms, mostly because I have black hair and I think I look ape like if I let it go. People think it grows back thicker or coarser but it doesnt. You cant physically alter the growth and make-up of your hair with a razor. It just appears darker and coarser because with a razor your making a blunt edge and cutting off the whispy light colored hair. When it grows back, it grows in prickly and straight, appearing coarser and darker because it is no longer whispy. If shaving causes fuller, coarser, darker hair to grow back, male baldness would be cured and people wouldnt be spending millions of dollars for hair regrowth. Think about it, shaving does not produce more hair follicles.

I had a cast on my arm and my hair grew in super thick. So, I shaved it all off. When it grew back in it was still thicker than the other arm. But after about 2 months it was back to normal.

Plucking (tweezing), Shaving, Depilatory creams and Waxing are temporary hair removal methods.
Waxing usually lasts for 3 weeks, but it is painful.
Electrolysis and laser hair removal are "permanent" hair removal methods but are expensive and you have to find a trained professional, otherwise your skin could be damaged.
A review of the various hair removal methods is available at http://tinyurl.com/ob6tt
