Jesus was a vocal rebel in a rebellious time. The Jewish power elite had come to an understanding with the Romans and were protecting their position by offering up Jesus rather than the thief, Barabbas.

Well if you ignore the fact that since they were under Roman control they could not have killed anyone. And if you ignore the fact that Crucifixion was a Roman method of execution used against Jews. You come to the only logical Christian response it was predestined and the Jews should be thanked for carrying out the deed to save mankind.

Or you could refer to the Jewish sources of the time; "Jesus who?"

the Jews didn't kill Jesus. the Romans tried and executed Jesus for sedition. according to the Bible story the Pharisee set Jesus up for arrest because Jesus caused a near riot berating money changers in the Temple court yard while the city was crowded with holy day visitors and under heavy occupation by the hostile forces of Rome. the last thing the Hebrew politicians needed was a huge massacre of their People by the Romans.

The bible explains that the Pharisees were jealous of Jesus. They were envious that the people followed Him and listened to Him. After Jesus raised Lazarus, the Jewish religious leaders plotted to kill Him. They were afraid Jesus would take away their positions. Even Pilate, when the Sanhedrin delivered Jesus into his hands knew they had done it "out of envy".

If you read the new testament carefully, you will see that many Jews followed Jesus, some did not. But the religious "leaders" of the day actually were on the receiving end of most of Jesus' angry remarks. He saw their hypocrisy. He accused them of putting burdens on men's backs, and never lifting a finger to help.

They constantly tried to trip Jesus up, and Jesus, of course, constantly put them in their place, using their own scriptures against them. They hated Him and wanted Him out of the way. Ironic that in putting him to death on the cross, they contributed to God's plan of salvation.

The Jews had a choice of which person they wanted put to death and they chose Jesus. They told Pontius Pilot: "we have no King but Caeser." This is why the nation of Israel lost favor with God and are no longer his chosen people. God's chosen people now include people from all "nations, tribes, peoples and tongues" but they must all accept Jesus as their saviour.
Jesus told the Jews that Jerusalem was a killer of the prophets and that proved to be so--for they wanted him dead--the greatest prophet of all time.

Although it was the roman court that condemned Jesus. Pilot did ask the crowd who they wanted released, Barabbas the thief or Jesus; the crowd replied give us Barabbas!. They killed him because of his claim of being the messiah. According to Jewish teaching the messiah will come baring a flaming sword to cut down the enemies of Gods chosen people. Jesus was a man of peace not a warrior that they were expecting.

They had the Lord Jesus Christ killed because they didn't believe
He was their King. He offered the kingdom to Israel but they reject it. They were looking for a king to ride in on a white horse and destroy their enmies. Matthew 4: 17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

The Romans killed Jesus! The death of Jesus was foretold even before the creation of the world. "He stood as a lamb slain before the foundation of the world" It is only his death and shed blood and resurrection which now gives us eternal life as he was our sin bearer and without the shedding of blood there is no foregiveness of sin. The Lord offered up Jesus as an atonment for our sin. Just be thankful and believe on Jesus today and receive the free gift of eternal life now!
