The quote isn't that money is the root of all evil. It's the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. I'm sure you can agree with me that that quote really speaks to some of the real problems in this country.
I don't go to church now, but my Dad's a minister.
I can tell you where the money goes Rent (or mortgage.) utilities, supplies, staff salaries, equipment and equipment repairs and there is never enough. Maybe some of those big TV preachers have money, but those are 5 out of a million. Am I ranting?? ohmygod i am sorry

The "LOVE" of money is the root of all "EVIL". You need to rephrase that! And yes there are some churches out there that seem to be money hungry but on the other hand there are good churches that use the money to spread the word of God to those that do not know him. He does not state that money in general is evil it's just when you let it overcome you and you do no put him first over everything in your life! If you are going to ask such a strong question please read the scripture thoroughly next time!

"Money is the root of all evil" is not a religious statement. More accurately would be "Love of money...". But churches want money because they have costs. Traditionally, in Old Testament times, the people gave the first and best of their crops or livestock to the priests who then offered it up as a sacrifice of thanks to God on behalf of the people. Right before Jesus, though, the priests were corrupt and although they made the sacrifices, they also kept all the best stuff for themselves. The concept of giving to a church is supposed to be based in thankfulness... its the occassional corrupt person that uses the money for the wrong things that makes it seem like a bad thing.

Being an educated person, you know this already.
But here's what I think...
Churches need to function within the rules set up by the humans running this planet. So, to move people and material (books, medicine,etc) around organizations need funds. As most churches want to be involved with their community, town, state, country - this takes funds.
On the world stage, money will be needed to move mountains - of red tape. Please use your intellect for helping people, not in anger. Stay focused on being a better you, and stay involved.
Good question to stir the pot though. I'll read the answers to see how you did. (35 answers so far - not bad.)

First of all its the love of money is the root of all evil and second we as christians are suppose to give our tithes and offerings to the church that is what pays for the church building,electric, repairs and water ect. The church needs money to pay the bills just like everone else.

This is a common misunderstanding...It is NOT money that is the root of all evil, but the LOVE of money. 1st Timithoy 6:10 "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs."

It is the LOVE OF money that is the root of all evil. If a church leader is in love with getting more meoney, then he is evil. If he is justtrying to raise money to do the Lord's work, then God will find a way for it to happen.
God is just-he knows who is greedy and who is asking for help to do His work, helping the needy, etc.
