I have been told that my husband, who has cirrhosis of the liver from alcohol could live as many as ten years with only twenty percent function, provided that he quit drinking. He now has eight years sobriety (AA worked for him) and his liver is about the same. He is not yet on a transplant list, but he will be on one in the future the doctor said. I am anxious to also read the answers to your question. I don't like that he was given ten years if he stopped drinking and its now eight years later. Too close for comfort at this point. I have researched it but haven't found many articles that discuss life span. Good Luck and thanks for posting this question.

Well, that's hard to say, b/c the liver actually regenerates. If the 20% of the liver that is left is healthy, then it could eventually regenerate almost back to full-size and the person would suffer no ill effects.

Anywhere from a few months to two years. If you want to regenerate it though there are herbal supplements for that. Silymarin milk thistle is taken by those who want to detoxify and regenerate their liver. Supplements like NACysteine, Alpha lipoic acid will raise glutathione levels in the body which help liver detoxify and function properly.
Take at least 1000mg of silymarin 2 times a day. Others do so up to3 to four times. Check with your doctor. Silymarin is available at any health food store. My brand is Windmill as that is the only one I know with 1,000 mg. others only have 300.

try to be careful about throwing the be conscious "ignorant" round. Ignorant ability uneducated, as you seem interior the context of this communicate. even as West Virginia has a extreme percentage of Caucasians, it truly is a blue state. it truly is in all probability that you've chosen your political colour designations for the states in accordance to at least something arbitrary and incomplete, alongside with the vote casting results of a unmarried presidential election. it really is only choosing and choosing which info to contemporary totally to help your argument. To characterize a state's political nature, you want to seem at more beneficial, and over a protracted time period. you should seem at both the nationwide workplace vote casting record (presidential and congressional workplaces) and the extreme element state election vote casting documents (workplaces alongside with governor, state legislature, etc.), over a era of 10-15 years. in case you flow back and seem at this with a broader view, you'll see that there is not any political style to be stumbled on right here - the reason behind the numbers isn't how they vote in elections, yet something else. And in case you do stumble on a way, that still would not educate something - correlation would not inevitably mean causation. EDIT: Andy, it truly is not a really logical statement. Your recommendations looks to educate the Democrats are anti-geyser. we ought to continually tell Jon Steward and Stephen Colbert on the prompt with the intention to commence doing something with this information. willjoeson, you're making those those who position self assurance in genuinely info seem undesirable. WV voted McCain in 2008.

Hard to say. They told me 10 years ago I had only a 10% liver function. I changed my diet and started a more healthy lifestyle and I am still going strong. Have you consulted with a gastroenterologist about your situation and discussed treatment plans?
