No. Maize is corn, but it grows in a "head"--not "on the cob." Corn on the cob is a different kind of corn.
Maize is usually used as livestock feed or ground up for cornmeal.

No it grows the same, but the taste is alot different, its not sweet like the corn on the cob for starters and wouldn't make a nice addition to a meal, sweet corn is selectively grown over the years for its sweetness, taste and texture to appeal to our tastebuds, maize cause it hasnt been selected for its sweetness etc wouldn't.
it has been selected for animal feed, or for in the steam cooked flaked, or for corn oil production and other stuff.

Maize is a domesticated variant of sweetcorn and is normally known to be ground sweetcorn made as flour, but in Some American states its varieties are taller and stronger and used for cattle feeding, but Yes, it is a derivative of sweetcorn,in Portugal its just ground sweetcorn nothing more,same over here in Jesrsey
