I've seen all of these commercials for the Army Reserve, and they all seem to neglect to mention that there's a good chance you'll get activated and deployed to Iraq. Don't you think that's misleading?

This is Army RESERVE. I'm not talking about regular Army recruitement commercials.
They tell you all it takes is "one weekend a month, two weeks a year"

I'm in the National Guard. Which is sort of like the Army Reserve except that we also can get called up for State Emergencies. When I signed my contract in September 2003 I understood that there was a risk I'd be called up for an over-seas deployment. I actually was informed that the unit I was joining (which is determined when you sign a reserve contract) was being activated and deployed; their first time since World War II. In the car with the recruiter, I had the chance to turn around and go home, stop the paperwork, and carry on my life as a civilian without ever having gone over seas without any punishment (no dishonorable discharge). I chose to continue in that path. It wasn't because I dreamed of being in a desert, surrounded by people who may or may not kill me. It was because of the fact that I knew the risks when I signed up, understood both the concept of honor and duty. I don't consider myself a great soldier. I didn't always like what I had to do every day for a year and a half. I dreamed of home and missed my family, including a fiance' who lovingly waited for the times I could call home, e-mail her, or send a letter. I did all this, not just to pay for school (which was the main reason I chose the Guard), but because I felt it was the right thing to do. I came back from Iraq, and saw my home, and realized all the things I'd taken for granted. Saw another culture. Saw the birthplace of Christianity. Had a chance to help locals make a better life for themselves. I don't know if everything that we're doing overseas is right. But I know that there are people over there who are thankful for all the "sandbaggers" who are trying, every day, to help them. Are the ads "misleading?" Perhaps. They certainly post a rosy picture of being in the reserves. Would I recommend everyone join the Guard? By all means no. There are millions of things I'd do different if I were in charge. But the base part of the ads, serve one weekend a month, two weeks out of the year aren't that misleading. The Reserve typically goes on a rotation schedule of when you might get called up for deployment. Depending on your state depends on how frequently that is. Even then, it isn't certain you'll be deployed. Alot of guys stayed back because they weren't on the schedule.

I don't think the commercial has ever said you will not go to Iraq. You would be stupid to think you would not have a chance of going to Iraq if you were in the Reserves. So since you are that stupid you would not be eligible for the Army or Army Reserves since we do require a 31 on the ASVAB.

The key word in "army reserve" is army. Of course there is a chance of being deployed to Iraq. What do you think they are going to do? Send you to a quilting bee?? Besides, recruiters have been misleading people for ages. That's what they do.

It is only misleading if you are not smart enough to realize that
the US government is not paying Reservist to play soldier one weekend a month & 2 weeks a year. It is told & known that Reservist can & will be called up as needed, otherwise what is their purpose. The US Army Reserves is not a made up job.

If you think its misleading, than don't join!
Also, name a commercial thats NOT misleading!
You're are retard asking a moronic question.
Look at the beer commercials! A guy cracks a brew and suddenly theres 40 hot chicks around him. Now THATS misleading. Do the burgers, fries, or other stuff you get at fast food places EVER look like they do on TV when you buy them? THATS misleading! Come on, your wasting peoples time here.
Also, look at the Air Force and Navy ads.
All they show in the Air Force is dudes flying fighters. In reality, only like 9% are pilots. In the Navy ads they show nothing but SEALS and Navy fighter pilots zooming around. Misleading? Absolutely! Thats how they sell **** dummy!

The army not saying you may get activated and sent to war is Not misleading. Its the military, they train not stop for war. They are not the U.N. they are soldiers that are battle ready. You should no this, if you do not want to take the chance then dont enlist. It is common sense.

No they are not misleading, they have been that way for years, If someone were to come up to me and say "hey if you join, you may have to go to war", I would reply, Where do I sign, What get's me, is the way that you posed this question sounds alot like all these "Peace" demonstrating groups that say No to War, These are the same people that I spent 12 yrs. as a Marine, Decorated, Combat Marine, Protecting and Providing a Blanket of Peace over them, just to have them spit in my face, and I would do it again, and again.. Why, Because America Did Not Become a Free Nation, from someone crying, "Ooh, I dont want to go to war, it's not nice to kill someone"..... Imagine, if a relative of yours was in the WTC, or Pentagon, or your Husband's Last Words were " Let's Roll"..... The People who Criticize the Soldiers who provide their protection, make me want to Puke....

The recruiter's job is to put on a sales pitch with glossy pamplets. Remember, these people are part of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. But they're assuming you watch the news and know there is a war going on!

It's the Army of course you're going to Iraq or where ever they need you. If a person doesn't have enough common sense to figure that out, then they don't need to enlist.
