I was in a different part of town shopping for a used car near a boarding house for retarded people. I stopped at a Big Boy for a burger, and I noticed a retarded couple on a "date" eating dinner. What do you think? I really didnt know what to think, but there is a very real possibility of children being born from this relationship.

Leave them alone. It's none of your concern.
Many people who are mentally challenged would make better parents than some of the idiots who are not challenged.

What seems to be the problem? That they're having a relationship like everyone else would like to have? Or is it more that you're worried about their having children?
I've talked with people who work with developmentally disabled people. In many cases, the group homes are already providing birth control. Also, the people who are having the relationships often want just the relationship and no children. So they are motivated to follow the birth control regimen closely.
This vaguely reminds me of the 1960 -1970 period when inter-racial relationships became more noticeable. People seemed to be asking the same questions.

Mentally challenged people need a social life - and, yes, a sex life, too - the same as anyone else. If they enjoy their date, why should it be a problem for anyone else? And if there is a child born of their union, the chances are overwhelming that it will be normal and that they will get whatever support is needed to care for the child. Many "normal" people are terrible parents, but most mentally challenged people are aware of their limitations and seek help.

Hello?? They are human beings and they do have thoughts, feelings and emotions and they have every right in the world to date or get married or whatever. First of all, it is absolutely none of your business. Secondly, many people with developmental disabilities do have relationships and get married. They also have jobs and attend school. As for the possibility of children, again, none of your business, but they may or may not be physically capable of reproduction, but if they are, chances are they have guardians, parents, teachers, counselors who will advise them of their options and help them to make a choice.
My son has Down syndrome, and I have every hope and expectation that he will have girlfriends and hopefully someday a wife. Why shouldn't he??
