Because just like AAFES, Wal-Mart has low prices on everything. You save money shopping AAFES and Wal-Mart (PS:Wal-Mart has better pricing than Target)

Because Wal-Mart is at the top of the heap as far as marketing and merchandising is concerned. They set the standard, and the military, in this instance is employing the state of the art in retail shopping. Much nicer than Family Dollar or Dollar General, No?
I would have liked to see the base stores offer more uniform items when I was in the service, it seemed like I always had to order everything.

AAfes doesn't look like walmart!!!!, I'm here in Germany and would love to acutally have a walmart here for cheaper prices and open 24hrs. When u are in a small part u will notice every one looks the same cause that is where everyone shops at.

Im sorry I dont share your feelings. It does get a bit boring if that is the only place to shop after a while but at least with AAFES you dont pay TAX!!

When did that happen? AAFES used to carry better brands on clothes. Did that change? They did have a limited selection though. Prices were good.

AAFES and the Navy Exchange system are not charities. They are self supporting and must make a profit to survive.

You were looking for a mini mart.
It is effective layout & works for quick shopping. Wal Mart went for same effectiveness.

I've never been to one that looks like a walmart, I was born on a base more then 30 years ago and have gone to quite a few. The navy/marine stores are pretty nice. The ones in the San Diego areas look like upscale shops. I'm sorry they look like walmart in your area.

Marketing...

Wal-Mart is successful... you want to be successful... do what Wal-Mart does... at least as far as retail selling goes.
