Very simply..because they like it..it is a self rewarding habit, so is very hard to break..the best solution is to keep it out of reach..many do this by using the covered litter boxes, and turning them so that the cat goes in from near the wall..
dogs can get worms, and other disease from eating the stuff.
Every veterinary site says that it is NOT a lack of nutrition, nor because the diet is otherwise lacking.

Cat food has a lot of fat in it and dogs will eat the feces because it takes good to them, try adding adolf's meat tenderizer to the cats food and it will keep the dog from eating there feces. Another way is to put the litter pan in a place where the dog cannot get to it.

good question every dog Ive ever seen does this, i always thought it was because of the protein. dogs are scavenger and a scavenger will eat any thing where as a cat is a clean animal and is picky about its food. if you wanna stop it use johnny cat cat litter dogs hate that stuff

Cat feces contain many vital nutrients for dogs, monkeys and even squirrels. Vitamin C and B12 are the most common. Sometimes when I feel like I'm getting sick, I choke down a piece or two, drink some lemonade and do Pilate's.

Because cats don't fully digest the cat food that they eat. So the dogs come along, smell what smells like cat food and eat it.

I read somewhere that it was because they like the taste and they are missing something in their diet. I have cats and dogs and my dogs sometimes do the same thing.

Cat food is generally much higher in protein than dog food hence it is strangely yummy to dogs even after "processing".

They do it because there's so much 'information' in it. and i guess they like the taste. dogs are gross. If you want your dog to stop, put pepper or spices on it and they'll stop.

I don't know but they love it! They run up 2 the litter box and see if there r any "crapperjacks" sooooooo nasty!
